Nanjing Impressions 南京大牌档 has been at level 4 of the new Annex Wing of Plaza Singapura for awhile. Due to the large number of choices around town, it was difficult to plan for a visit till finally a friend suggested. She has been returning and is a fan of a few dishes created by Nanjing Impressions. All the I should give it a try, I was thinking to myself.
Service crew dressed in the classic Tang-style to usher guests to their designated table though some what gimmicky, we thought it was a novel. This allows us to travel back to the old days and due to the interior decoration, sent us back immediately too. Far into the restaurant was a stage with Chinese Performance Art keeping the guests entertained.
Nanjing dishes are one of the Four Great Traditions in Chinese Cuisine which I am not familiar with. I left the ordering to my friend.
Sweet Vinegar Tangy Pork Ribs ($16.80) was the first dish we order. The sweet vinegar aroma scratches the surface. Saving grace was the sticky sauce. We find the meat too fatty and it wasn’t tender enough.
Stirred Fried Long Beans was next. A tasty dish with little wok hei. And we enjoyed. Thought it was a dish best with white rice.
Uniform thickness of Julienne Beancurd was easily mistaken as noodle in the Julienne Beancurd Soup. The soup was the flavourful part that enhances the beancurd.
Hit and misses was in the dishes we have at Nanjing Impressions (南京大牌档). I wouldn’t mind having it if I were around the area and am craving for Chinese food.
