My first trip to Lille, I didn’t manage to reserve Crowne Plaza Lille – Euralille as it was fully booked. As such I turned to Grand Hotel Bellevue. This time round, in Summer, I was in luck, even though it was quite an eleventh hour booking, I managed to sercure a room.
Crowne Plaza Lille – Eurallie, a 4-star hotel, has 8 room categories; Standard, Queen, King, Twin, Superior, Executive, Suite and Family Room catering to different needs. My stay first stay was 4 nights from 26 June to 30 June and the second was also 4 nights from 1 July to 4 July. Both were the Standard Room with Double bed.
Entrance of Crowne Plaza Lille – Euralille is facing the Gare de Lille Europe might seems perfect. However, the fact that the back is facing a cemetery will turn some people off. Euralille Shopping Mall is within 5 minutes of walking, housing Carrefour and many international brands cum restaurants.
Nothing fancy about the lobby, consisting of a functional desk for checking-in and out.
Check-In and Out
The process for both Check-in and out are relatively efficient but that’s really depend on who is processing your request. Most speak decent level of English.
Designed by Philippe Starck, a renown French designer recognized for his wide range of designs, especially interior design. The standard room is with double bed. The bed in Europe tend to be soft, likewise is this one at Crowne Plaza. The worse is the pillow; far too soft to give a good neck support.
At 32m², the room looks spacious, containing a working desk and armchair in addition to the TV. Mainly French channels with 6 English channels that included BBC and CNN.
From the entrance of the room was the wardrobe, facing the bathroom.
In the wardrobe, beside the bathrobe, there is a safe and an ironing facility cum additional blanket and pillow.
Numerous complimentary instant coffee, hot chocolate and tea with creamery were offered. I was delighted to spot my favourite Lotus Speculoos biscuit.
Filled-minibar with soft-drinks, wine and juicie. On the contrary, the snacks were sparing with only one Potato Chips and one nuts.
Throughout the room, I counted a total of 3 Europe 2-pins powerpoints and 2 USB for my first room while the second room though it has more Europe 2-pins powerpoints, it was lacking in USB port.
One was hidden in the wardrobe.
Signs of wear and tear was present among the wooden furniture.
This is yet another room with separated bath area and toilet space.
Essential toiletries are offered; vanity pack, soap, shower cap are some of which that are provided.
Strangely, the hotel offered Shampoo, Body Gel and lotion except conditioner. Adjustable held shower height in addition to the bath-tub was available.
Crowne Plaza Lille – Euralille is one of the rare hotel that offered complimentary water.
It is even rarer to find welcome chocolate.
And I was even more surprised to find the pillow essence, to help guest to have a better sleep.
The view of my room was the city view and directly facing the entrance of the train station.
However, the housekeeping standard was below acceptable expectation. On both weeks, there were times, that the housekeeping left the pillow at the side instead on the bed. I felt disgusted that these cushion that are meant for the bed were placed on the floor.
The hotel offers breakfast at the Le Plaza located at the ground floor. This restaurant offers traditional and regional French cuisine with buffet and à la carte selections.
Le Copper is the hotel bar, also on the ground floor.
The hotel provides laundry service. I find the washing at this hotel is milder. The good news was it didn’t create tiny holes in my pyjamas. However, they might not deliver the clothes to the room on time. There were times when my clothes were not back to the rooms past 10pm. On two occasions, the hotel crew passed them to me at the ground floor instead.
Luggage storage is also the other service offered at Crowne Plaza Lille – Euralille.
Feedback & Response
I was impressed on the way they responded to feedback. I didn’t expect that they will do something immediately to my comment.
The Duty Manager personally gave me a call and came to my room to discuss and try to rectify the points. However, the follow-up afterwhich was disappointing. As it was null.
Total price for first 4 nights (26 June to 30 June) was 683€ while the second 4 nights (1 July ro 4 July) was 661€.
Crowne Plaza Lille – Euralille may not be the perfect hotel that I am looking for but for the price versus the quality and standard, I thought it is justifiable. But certainly, there is room for improvement.
