Monster Curry Singapore – VivoCity, Harbourfront

I have been walking pass the Monster Curry Singapore at VivoCity many times, watching diners enjoying the humongous plate of curry rice. And it was so tempting to stroll in to try even though I know I will not finish the plate. Finally, I got to dine at Monster Curry Singapore. And I have been returning since my first visit.

Nothing much of to mention about the ambience. It is don in red with black fixtures. The restaurant is very much a eat and you go kind of eatery.

As the name suggested, it is a restaurant that serves only Curry Rice with assorted ingredients and nothing else! No additional sides or desserts are found on its menu, except a few beverages. I was a little disappointed because there is no dessert!!

At Monster Curry, it serves the curry at 5 different level of spiciness with an option of not spicy, in case any diners do not tolerate spiciness. We ordered flame 1 (level 1) and all of us find it spicy.

Menu

Monster Curry offers 4 categories of curry rice, namely; Original Curry, Katsu Curry, Seafood Curry and Monster Curry.

All the sides for the curry rice offered at Monster Curry were the same, consisting of shredded cabbage salad with sesame salad dressing, radish preserves and of course a huge amount of brown colour curry sauce. Depending on the spice level ordered, the number of persimmon coloured heart shaped will be drawn on the curry. It makes the dish look so pretty.

Original Curry

There are 6 dishes under the Original Curry; Homemade Curry ($9), Natto & Egg Curry ($13), Cheese Omelet Curry ($12), Pork Shabu-Shabu Omelet Curry ($14), Spicy Tori-Karaage Curry ($13) and Sausage Curry ($13).

Monster Curry Singapore - Cheese Omelet Curry ($12)

I tried only the Cheese Omelet Curry ($12). I like it since I like eggs. Omelet with curry and rice was appetising.

Katsu Curry

4 dishes under the Katsu Curry; Chicken Katsu ($13), Cheese Chicken Katsu Curry ($14), Pork Katsu Curry ($13) and Cheese Pork Katsu Curry ($14).

Monster Curry Singapore - Pork Katsu Curry ($13)

The first was the Pork Katsu Curry ($13). Pork was considerably tough for my jaw. And it has a good portion of fats. For diner who doesn’t mind, it is great. But I am not a fan of fats. Overall, the pork katsu was very typical Japanese kind of deep fried pork cutlet.

Monster Curry Singapore - Chicken Katsu Curry ($13)

We have a Chicken Katsu Curry ($13) too. It seems like Monster Curry uses the chicken breast meat. It was a little tough and dry. This was a disappointing dish as compared to the rest of our choices.

I would love to try the Katsu with cheese the next time.

Monster Curry

If you are sharing, the best option is the Monster Curry. It is large to serve two, unless you really have huge appetite. And what I like is there are a variety of ingredients on the plate. There is combination of seafood, katsu and some others, except for the omelette.

Monster Curry Singapore - Sea Monster Curry ($24)

The Sea Monster Curry ($24) is with a deep fried fillet, 4 prawns and 2 scallops. The seafood was pretty decent and the moisture were retained, I was glad.

Drinks

Drinks weren’t the most extensive list. At least, somehow, there were a reasonable selection of some Italian Juice, Soft drinks, Matcha and Japanese Yogurt Drink.

Monster Curry Singapore - Peach Juice

Peach Italian Juice was all right while the Japanese Yogurt Drink received positive feedback.

Monster Curry Singapore - Japanese Yogurt Drink and Matcha (centre)

I tried the Macha, it was legit. The macha flavour was light, milk was stronger.

NAHMJ Verdict

Choices at Monster Curry Singapore is of a good varieties. I am sure diners will be able to find something to their liking with selections ranging from simple omelette to meat and to seafood.

NAHMJ and diners enjoyed the curry sauce and thought well of it. And what NAHMJ really love about Monster Curry is they provide different level of spiciness for diners preferences, catering to all spice tolerance level.
