Japan Gourmet Hall SORA first outlet was at Changi Airport Terminal 2 offering a plethora of mouthwatering Japanese dishes to diners. The great news, ANA Group launched their second outlet at Terminal 1 boasting the best Japanese dishes from three prefectures: Ikkousha from Fukuoka, Yoshimi from Hokkaido and Megumi Maru from Kanagawa.
Modelling after airport business lounge interior to provide comfort to commuters and diners alike.
Navigating to Japan Gourmet Hall SORA is easy. Take the escalate located between check-in counter 7 and 8 at Departure Hall (Level 2) and you will spot the gourmet hall on your left.
What’s At Japan Gourmet Hall SORA?
Yoshimi
Among the 3 brands, my favourite is Yoshimi dishing delectable Katsu (Pork Cutlet). Hailing from Sapporo, Hokkaido, they are fame for its curry rice, katsu rice and katsu curry.
Personal favourite is the Pork Loin Katsu Set ($23.80).
For those who prefer less chew will love the Mille-feuille Katsu Set ($26.80). A total of 16 layers of pork layered together to give a tender and moist texture.
Each set consists of Japanese rice, soup and cabbage salad.
Alternative, opt for the Omurice Curry ($16) using about 15 spices and herbs cooked with beef stock to give the umami flavour.
Favourite of the night got to be the Mixed Berry Pancake ($19.80). Fluffy sponge-like pancake with the hokkaido whipped cream together with berries compote and almond nuts is the combination to die for. Worth every calorie.
The Soft Serve is also a good alternative should you looking for a dessert good for one person to enjoy.
Megumi Maru
We are familiar with Maze Soba with restaurant such as Kajiken and Menya Kokoro. Though the later serve Maze Don, but Megumi Maru might be the first concept to offer Maze Don as the highlight.
We tried 2 Maze Don and my favourite is the Aburitoro Maze Don ($35.10). Lightly touched toro with smokiness tossed with the colourful bite-size and shredded vegetables and the special sauce together with the onsen egg created a smooth silky and bold and intense flavour rice bowl.
Kaisen Maze Don ($18.80) is the crowd-favourite. In addition to the fresh sashimi dice, unagi, prawn together with abundant pickled, chopped spring onion, noodle crisp and uni shoyu provided a umami flavour.
Maze Don is an extremely wholesome option.
The other option at Megumi Maru is the rice roll. If you are a Mentaiko fan, go for the Maguro Mentai Roll ($15.90).
Ikkousha
Last but not least is stall serving Yatai Ramen from the Fukuoka.
Choose from Special Tonkotsu Ramen ($18.70) for its robust pork broth. Or the Special Black Garlic Ramen ($20.90) for the nutty aroma. If you love your chilli, go for the Special Red Chilli Ramen ($20.90). There is option for everyone.
NAHMJ Verdict
Japan Gourmet Hall SORA surely is the place for travellers to turn to when in Changi Airport Terminal 1 when in need for a good Japanese meal. I will have my Pork Loin Katsu Set or Aburitoro Maze Don and finished the meal with Mixed Berries Pancake.
