Platform 1094 is the latest talk of the town. Commonly known as the Harry Potter Theme Cafe is located at Boon Keng area, along a stretch of shophouse. This cafe is by the folks of FFL. One could easily identify since first it is suited at a corner. In addition, there will be a group of diners hanging outside waiting for seats. Hence, if you did not secure a reservation, at least for the moment, don’t attempt your luck. We have a difficult time calling them and making our reservation. Finally, we succeed with a 2 weeks in advance reservation.
As one entered Platform 1094, a seeking to look like the Hogwart’s Dinning Hall as the interior was observed. But it certainly isn’t as majestic as the one in the movie or the description from the book. Be surprised by the magical props available. Dressed to the theme and be like a witch or wizard.
Menu at Platform 1094 is relatively small with only a handful of Mains, breakfast food and sides. There are either the Poison (alcoholic) or Potion (fruit juice) and of course tea and coffee are available too.
A commonly spotted Poison at all table was the bluish coloured drink. Formerly known as the Globet of Fire ($15). An alcoholic drink comprises vodka, blue curacao, and lemonade. Before serving, add rum and a light on fire. For the sparkle, start dusting cinnamon over it.
For starters, we ordered Truffle Fries ($10) though we contemplated having Spam Fries earlier. Lightly truffle flavoured was savoured but a pity fries isn’t crispy enough.
A total of 4 breakfast dishes were on the menu. 2 wraps, Crab Claw & Roe Tortilla Wrap ($13) and Grilled Chicken Tortilla ($12) were the items we didn’t order. We tried Giant’s Breakfast ($15) consisting of truffle infused scrambled egg, sausages, pumpkin, pineapple wrapped bacon and muffin.
The second breakfast item we orderd was the Plaited Brioche with Smoked Salmon ($15). An Egg Bendict look alike, lacking of the Hollandaise Sauce. Both were decent, nothing wow. They were simply brought ready ingredients assembling together to create a pleasant visual plating presentation.
Among the 3 pasta dishes, we ordered 2. When served, we were skeptical about the taste since none looked appetising. But we were wrong. Both were surprisingly delish. Our favourite was the Crab Meat Aglio E Olio ($17), flavourful and lightly spicy.
Lebanese Grilled Chicken Pasta ($16) consisting of creamy pesto sauce with pine nut to provide some crunch.
NAHMJ Verdict
We felt the folks of Platform 1094 has spent some effort in the ambience with the magical props. When food was served, the magical experience diminished as none except the Goblet of Fire drink offers the feel. We surely hope they will add on more of the fantasy experience in the dishes too.
