The last buffet we had at Makan @ Jen At Hotel Jen Orchardgateway was the ‘Ultimate Prawn Party’. After 9 months, Makan @ Jen is introducing the East Meets West Buffet. We were excited as we love such borderless curated dishes. In addition, if you are dinning in 4, read to find out the promotion in-store for you.
For those who has not been to Makan @ Jen, it is perched at level 10 of Hotel Jen Orchardgateway. As such, once you arrived at the restaurant, you will feel as if you were transported to a getaway spot instantaneously. This is because, the serenity vibe is echoing in the air.
East Meets West Buffet At Making @ Jen
Tantalise your tastebud with the best of the Eastern and Western Cuisine at this East Meets West Buffet at Makan @ Jen which Hotel Jen Orchardgateway has specially planned. Some of the highlights are below.
Highlights At The East Meets West Buffet.
First and foremost is an adaptation from the popular black Hokkien Mee, instead of using the yellow noodle, pasta is used in this Char Hokkien Mee Pasta. It is very well received though some find the noodles too al dente.
Another crowd favourite was the Fusion Pizza. 2 daily flavours were on the buffet each day. On the day of our visit, Korean Pork Bulgogi with Kimchi, Feta Cheese3 Pizza and Tom Yam Flavoured Seafood Pizza were available. We love the former due to the rich and flavourful ingredients on the pizza. However, we can’t say the same for the pizza dough.
Something out of the extraordinary, least unexpected combination was in the Pie Tee Paella. Replacing the turnip with paella rice with the rest of the ingredients remains the same is the twist to this local dish. The result is bold and revolutionary.
More Borderless Creations Offered At The Buffet Spread
Most must have fond memory of the seafood paste stuff in you tiao from our favourite local Cze Char stall. Here we have Fish & Chips using Fried Dough Fritters; truly east meets west here. An entire new experience of having Fish & Chips.
Seafood is always a captivating choice among Singaporea, hence not to be missed is the crowd-pleaser, Asian Lobster in BBQ Sauce, essentially, these are crayfish. Me too love them, could easily have a dozen pieces of them.
Chilli Crab Quesadilla is an item with mixed review; love it due to the strong complex flavour. And it is with the same reason for those who dislike it. In spite of the overall voting result, one fact we can’t deny is the love for the ingredient, chilli crab.
Lastly are two Thai Chicken dishes. First is the Thai Fried Chicken stuffed with Creamed Potatoes and Parma Ham and followed by the Thai Chicken chop. The chicken in both the dishes were succulent.
Desserts
Finally, we reached a time for dessert. We counted about 8 cakes and tarts and 8 flavours of ice cream cum assortment of Nonya Kueh as a spread.
Some of the diners favourite are the Mango Mousse Cake which hardly could go wrong.
If you prefer, go for the Red Bean Mochi.
Promotion
The East Meets West Buffet at Makan @ Jen is available from now till 30 Nov 2017 on every Sunday to Thursday, from 6.30pm to 10pm, at $42++ per person.
NAHMJ Verdict
East Meets West Buffet serves a number of innovative dishes by combining some of the unusual east and west ingredients together which we thought it was a good try. At this buffet, we find that the standard is getting better. However, a number of food we tried was not pipping hot which most would prefer.
