The main feature at The Chop House is a self-service system of Draft Beer. None of us drank when we were there for late lunch, almost 3pm. It was just minutes before the lunch set ended. Neither did we scrutinize the menu, all we want was “Food”. Since there were 3 diners and there were 3 different appetizers and mains on the Lunch Set Menu, we went for the convenience. One each and we shared.
As such, we didn’t try any of the classic offerings such beef or pork in The Chop House.
Whenever I walked passed The Chop House during lunch, it was very much empty. Of course at that kind of timing it would be worse. There was another table of 2 beside our table of 3. While we were waiting, there was a substantial waiting time since the restaurant was considerably empty. I was wondering if it was because of the food or the long waiting time that resulted the low patron rate.
Lunch Set – Appetizers
The lucky thing was that all the 3 appetizers were served almost one after another, we need not wait for long for the rest to be served.
Tomato Basil Soup
Per the description the Tomato Basil Soup was served with croutons, we can spot 3 of them and sour cream which we don’t see any.
It was a bowl of thick sourish fill with tomato goodness and basil flavour soup. If you like tomato, this is specially for you. Among the 3 diners, only 1 like. I belong to the group of disliking it, mainly due to preference as I never enjoy Tomato Soup at all. The other didn’t enjoy the basil flavour.
Grilled Asparagus
From the photo below, you could tell the Grilled Asparagus came with poached egg and bacon and hollandaise sauce. Exactly what the menu describes.
It is a healthier dish, minus of the bacon. Nothing can go wrong in this dish with simple ingredients and cooking like these. We agreed that it was an all right dish.
Crispy Calamari
The third and also the last appetizer garnered all 3 likes.
We felt this was the best among the 3 choices. But we felt this is more suitable for sharing.
Lunch Set – Mains
We were glad that the Mains were served as we almost finished our Appetizers. No further wait was required.
Chicken Patty Melt
A chicken patty burger with melted cheese and caramelized onions on thick burgers served with bite-sized hash brown.
None diners disapproved the chicken burger, though I thought there’s some room for improvement for this dish.
Walnut Crusted Sea Bass
Another dish with mixed reviews. The Sea Bass was seated on a baked potato with sauteed spinach and surrounded by orange cream.
One diner like the dish. 2 felt the fish was a little dry. In addition, I didn’t appreciate the orange cream.
Wild Mushroom Risotto
Our final Mains, the Wild Mushroom Risotto, consisiting of shiitake, button, portobello and swiss brown mushroom and according to the menu there was foie gras too.
It was a pity that we could taste the foie gras. Among the 3, 2 like it and one didn’t. The one who didn’t was mainly due to preference.
Verdict
Unanimously, we agreed in general the food at The Chop House was good. And the price was very much affordable too, with each 2 course lunch set at $19.90++. After all, personally, there are still some room for improvement to get better. I wouldn’t term them as misses though.
