Entire space at Kenjo Salon is white; white light, white furnishing and painting too. The layout of the station is stagger. And they offer free Wifi too. It is certainly a useful service especially when you are doing some lengthy hair services. 

Once I was comfortably snugged in my seat, 6 beverages option was offered – Milo, Nespresso Coffee, Green Tea, Orange Juice, Cold and Warm Water. I selected Green Tea. 2 pieces of the Lotus Caramelised biscuit came together with the drink.

My hairstylist Zenn Tan offered me a transparent bag to store my personal belonging and she kindly help me to hang it there. 

Very quickly, she gave a close examination of my hair and provided an assessment of my face shape. Next, we discussed my preference for colours and hair length cum occupation. Finally, she proposed the cut. After some discussion, we settled on the details and time to work on my locks.

I did 3 hair services at this very visit to KENJO Salon. First was Colouring services. Followed by Mucota Hair Treatment. Lastly, Cut & Blow.

This round, she did a Contour colour and Contour cut for my hair. These 2 techniques will basically correct my asymmetrically face shape and provide some voluminous look to my otherwise flat and oily hair. In addition, it will accentuate my natural waves. What I really love about her is that she took my natural waves into consideration for the cut so as to ensure that it will be more manageable on a daily basis and to flung this asset of mine. Personally, I have always been on a look out for a Hairstylist who will do this as I thought this is the wisest strategy to take. Finally, I found her.  

Before the colouring, Zenn applied a Scalp Cream to prepare and protect the scalp from the chemical. We selected 2 colours for the colouring. First was a lighter natural colour and next was a dark for colour for the purpose of contouring.

After enduring the lengthy colouring process which was approximately 2 hours. Next, we proceed to the Mucota ABC Hair Treatment which was an advance Nano-Technology. This treatment is to moisturize, repair and protect the hair. First is Adel, using a moisture base to deeply hydrate and restore natural hair elements. Next, Brava creates a net-like structure in the hair to prevent the essential elements from flowing out as such improves hair texture. Finally the Calore which protects the cuticle by restoring water. It coats a 7-layer nano-structure to keep the hair shiny and smooth.

After the hair treatment, I see an immediate result. There is tremendous improvement in my hair. The frizzy hair was tame. Further more it is now smoother and shinier too. 

Finally, time for the hair cut. Swiftly, she completed the cut. Before it ended, she advised me how to maintain the style and with some home care products to make the effect of hair treatment last longer.

Space at Theresa Beauty, Toa Payoh branch is small. Nonetheless was cosy and comfortable with the right amount of lighting to feel relax.

Though I like massage, I could hardly find a masseur who could execute enough strength and equally important at the right spot to relieve me of my muscle stiff, in particular at my neck and shoulder area. Hence, I am always reluctant to out the services. However, since this round is free, I am going to give it a try.

My friend opted for a 30-minutes head and shoulder and a 30-minutes foot reflexology with Precioius Foot Reflexology while I opted for a 60-minutes Full Body Massage with Oil.

At Precious Foot Reflexology, they offer iPad and free Wifi service for customer to enjoy while enjoying a tranquil massage.

Since my friend is a regular at this foot reflexology, according to her. Most of the masseur did a pretty good job and of course there is one in particular she didn’t enjoy the service. The main reason was this guy didn’t execute enough pressure to relieve the stiffness. If you want to know who, he is the guy in the picture. 

For my 60-minutes Full Body Massage with Oil, the rooms are located at the second floor. Rooms are tiny as such one side of the bed is right beside a wall. Hence, the masseur kept shifting the bed when she got to move to the other side. Personally, I find it quite disturbing.

As for the skill, personally, I find her knowledgable and she did use her body weight to execute the pressure with enough strength. But the massage incorporated oil, it was slippery and many times, she missed exerting at the right point.

At the end of the massage, a cup of diluted ginger tea was served. Almost like drinking plain water.

NAHMJ Verdict

Massages at Theresa Beauty is considerably flavourable especially with the foot reflexology services. As for the full body massage, perhaps doing the one with non-oil will be a better option.

Kimage Cove is located next to the linkway bridge that connects to Suntec City, which means it is within minutes of walk from Esplanade MRT station. With such a prominent landmark it is very easy to locate the place.

Upon entering, I spotted the Santa hat chair cover, and felt that it was very thoughtful of the salon to do up the decorations for the season. After all, it is the little things that adds to the atmosphere.

The best part of the salon is that they provided a number lock cabinet for personal belongings to their customers. There are also power points available should your phone be running on low battery while having your hair done. On top of the usual magazines and drinks, it was also lovely of Kimage to provide a small cookie for their customers to munch on!

What truly impressed me was the hair washing area. The area is dry, and the seats are clean and comfortable. All I have to do is to sit down casually, and once ready, the hairstylist will get the chair into hair-washing position. Hence I don’t have to struggle to lift or lower my head.

I like the soft-spoken hairstylist who has been very polite and attentive to my requests. She also took the initiative to give me advice on the colour selection, hairstyle, etc. And I really like the way my hair feels after the session.

With state-of-the-art equipment and skillful cum friendly hairstylists, I must say that I really enjoyed the experience and would surely recommend Kimage to anyone who likes to take good care of their hair.

Posh Wellness is a beauty outlet at Marina Square offering an array of services ranging from facial to massage to aesthetic services. I immediately felt relaxed as the atmosphere was very calming, with a tinge of soothing aroma in the air. I was warmly greeted by the reception who proceed to walk me through the range of services available.

The lighting at the room was deliberately dimmed to help customers feel relaxed, and even a little bit sleepy (in my case).

As Posh Wellness has recently introduced the IPL skin tightening service, and I have a more rounded jawline, I’m a perfect candidate to give this service a try.

How it works is that a handheld flashgun is passed across the skin, delivering a spectral range of light that targets the skin tissue. This is a pain-free procedure. All you feel is warmness on the skin area where you need the tightening and contouring. The result is a sharper face even after my first treatment!

The beauticians was very attentive throughout the session and constantly check with me to make sure that I am enjoying the treatment. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would recommend Posh Wellness if you are looking for a comprehensive facial & spa outlets to go to in the weekends.

FANCL Sunguard 50+UV Protect

FANCL Sunguard 50+ top the list.  I like it as it has high SPF protection and it’s not greasy. In addition, it is fairly affordable for me to apply them both on my face and forearms. Just apply 20 cents coin size of the sunscreen on the face, it’s sufficient to protect till noon. Take note to avoid white residual on the face. The tip is to leave the sunscreen on the face for few minutes before make up.

PHITEN UV Cut Milk

I rank Phiten UV Cut Milk 2nd mainly because it cost more than FANCL. There are several sunscreens products by Phiten, but only AquaGold collection is physical based. The texture is similar to FANCL. Upon applying it on the face, you can feel the face is shield by a thin film to keeping the dirt and air pollution away from the pores. I also like how Phiten not leaving visible white residual effect.

COSME DECORTE AQMW Sunscreen

Though I am familiar with COSME DECORTE skincare products, I have only lately bought their AQMW sunscreen to try. The lotion-like texture is the most silky. It can be easily spread over the entire face. COSME DECORTE is very moisturising and you almost forget you have the lotion on your face.  This is the best sunscreen for those who likes to make up cum some coverage.

NAHMJ Verdict

Investing in a good sunscreen can be considered as a long term prevention of wrinkles.  It is wise to select products that do not contain any harmful or chemical ingredients.  Protecting the skin is far more important than nourishing it.   Strictly follow a skincare routing may take time in our busy lifestyle, however,  leaving the skin exposed to sun may cost you more to reverse the damage in the future.

High Tea Beauty Workshop By Dior

DIOR experienced beauty consultants who specialise in Make up, Skin Care and Fragrance conducted three mini workshops at the event. The demo sessions were interactive as customers were free to raise any beauty questions.

Make Up Workshop

We started with the Make up workshop at the High Tea Beauty Workshop By Dior, where DIOR 2016 Holiday edition products were demonstrated on a customer.

First is the DIOR 5 Couleurs Splendor eyeshadow palette which contains 5 colours for used at variety of occasions. We learned to apply the lighter colours on areas away from the eyes, such as below the eyebrows to brighten up the eyes. The darker shades are best closer to the edge of the eyelids to create smokey effect. And do remember to blend the colours into each other.

DIOR lip and cheek velvet comes in 4 beautiful shades for use as a lipstick or blusher. Upon brushing it on the cheek, the effect looks light and natural.

Take away tip: Avoid mascara over loaded at the end of eyelashes, we should hold the mascara brush horizontally. Gently brush in zig-zag motion from the root to the tip.

Skin Care Workshop

DIOR prestige skincare collection consists of wild rose essence specially hand-picked from their organic DIOR garden. DIOR Prestige Lotion is the first step of the recommended skin care regime. The lotion softens and prepares the skin for better absorption of serum and moisturizer.

The regime continues with DIOR Prestige serum, eye cream and Prestige La Creme. Both has natural rose scents to relax the skin. Simply take two pumps of serum, dot it evenly on the face and follow by gently upward massage to improve absorption. Don’t forget the neck area too.

Dior Prestige La Crème is the day and night moisturizer that comes with a special applicator. Use the applicator for upward massaging on the cheek to improve skin elasticity.

Take away tips: When applying cream on neck, it’s best to do it downward instead of upward direction.

Fragrance Workshop

DIOR started with Fragrance products before introducing fashion, jewelry and skin care products. We were given trial sample of DIOR Jadore to try. I was impressed with the sophisticated scents that make up of Ylang-Ylang smell for top note, Rose middle note and Jasmine for base note.

Take away tips: Each perfume has 3 notes, top, middle and bottom. The top note is available immediately upon application, middle is after a while. Lastly the bottom is release when dry and it is the most lasting one.

ALTERNA haircare products, Caviar collection, at Sephora stores caught my attention while I was desperately looking for high performance, quality hair care product.  The American brand ALTERNA uses only natural ingredients such as Caviar Extract, Age Control Complex and Seasilk. No parabens, sulfates and synthetic colour are added to the products. Ever since, I tried few ALTERNA Caviar anti-aging products and happy to share my experience on each of them.

ALTERNA Caviar Daily Root and Scalp Stimulator

This daily Stimulator is in a clear liquid form, packed in spray bottle for easy application. Use it every morning. I like to use it on clean and slightly blow dry scalp. Simply find the hair lines of the concern areas and spray the daily Scalp Stimulator. Follow by a gente massage for better absorption.

ALTERNA weekly Intensive Boosting Treatment

Use it the same way for the Boosting Treatment on every weekend. Instead of spraying, squeeze the bottle.  Leave it on the scalp for few minutes for the nutrients to be absorbed before blow-drying and styling.

Both products are quite mild since they do not give any stimulating or cooling effect on scalp. Although treatment product seems slightly thicker, both hair tonics do not irritate and carry any fragrance. My scalp and hair doesn’t feel sticky after the application. After styling, my hair actually looks thicker and lighter from the roots to the ends.

ALTERNA Caviar Oil Creme Deep Conditioner

The Conditioner contains Abyssinian Oil and anti-aging creme. It does a good job to protect the hair from losing the moisture and shine. I find the product most suitable for those with damaged hair.

The Caviar Treatment CC Cream is ALTERNA‘s star product.  The 10-In-1 leave-on cream claims to provide moisture, shine, smoothness, softness, UV protection, manageability, strength, anti-breakage, heat protection and light hold.

For those who like all in one styling product like me, this CC cream make it convenient for the busy one just before going to work. Simply squeeze some on the palm. Rub it with both hands and apply gently on the hair avoiding the roots. The result is that my hair doesn’t look damp in the afternoon like it used to be.

RAS Black Magic comes in one size only of 15ml and it is packed in a plastic airless pump bottle. I like to see natural skin care products packaged in pump bottle. It does make it easier for us to use and also make the skincare less likely contaminated to germs and dust. The instruction to use is clearly printed on both the box and the bottle. RAS Black Magic is to apply on blackheads prone areas after cleansing and toning. The gel can be used on day and night. It does not require rinse off.

I tried peel off mask and mud based mask for deep cleansing and both require rinsing off after the treatment. When i first saw Black Magic’s Do-Not-Rinse-Off instruction, I was quite sceptical about it. I wonder how the dirt and sebum could be removed without rinsing off. Setting aside the doubt, I gave the product a try. I apply an average layer of RAS Black Magic on my nose and chin areas. The product smell refreshing and it does give cooling effect on skin.  The gel doesn’t make my skin dry. In addition, it doesn’t tighten or cause pinching feeling to my sensitive skin. I applied it day and night for 2 days and I noticed my nose and chin get a bit smoother the next morning.

However, I suggest one to use it only on blackheads prone areas such as nose and chin. For those with very dry skin, it might be good idea to add a thin layer of moisturizer on top of Black Magic. Due to the presence of citrus essential oil in the product, you may want to apply sunscreen before you are exposed to the sun for more than 30 minutes.

NAHMJ Verdict

Overall, I’m satisfied with RAS Black Magic and very glad to see this essential oil based product does not irritates my sensitive skin. I suppose Black Magic is a gentle product. It is a good option for all ages to consider as pore care product.

FANCL is a Japanese cosmetic company who is famous for it’s preservatives free skin care and dietary supplementary products.  I believe in giving enough breathers and breaks to the skin for it to stay healthy and strong.  FANCL Less is More caught my attention when I read their philosophy; about keeping the first layer of skin healthy so it stays strong to protect.

Top 3 Fave FANCL Products

My top 3 fave of their star products are FANCL BC Beauty Concentrate, Tenseup Collagen Drink and Sunguard 50+ UV Protect.  

FANCL BC Beauty Concentrate

I was tried the FANCL BC collections (includes Lotion, Emulsions, Eye cream) and my favorite item within the collection is FANCL BC Beauty Concentrate. The texture is between emulsion and cream; it is not greasy. I do feel my face get plumped up a bit with less visible laugh lines. I also like that it can be used as eye serum since it’s so gentle to the skin.

FANCL Sunguard 50+ UV Protect

My second favorite item is the Sunguard 50+ UV Protect. I am actually quite loyal to this sunscreen as I have been using it for more than 5 years. Back then there were not many choices for mineral based sunscreen and I never want to use chemical based sunblock on my skin. I use it mostly for body as it does easily leave white residue on your face if not apply properly. I later figured out that the sunscreen does blend well with the skin color if I use an appropriate amount (say 20 cents coins for entire face) and spread it evenly on face after skincare routine and before makeup. Note that when applying sunscreen, think about spreading jam on your morning toast, you want it to stay on the surface to protect and not to massage it deep into the skin.

FANCL TENSE UP Collagen Drink

The TENSE UP Collagen Drink is my latest favorite products. It promotes to get the skin bounce back and stay firm. I stop my powder form collagen and decided to give it a try. I like how I look in my recent photos after I diligently drink a bottle a day for consecutive 30 days. It is not easy to get balanced diet everyday so instead of spending money on coffee, I would rather invest in good collagen drink to keep beauty from inside out.

These are three FANCL products I tried and like most so far.  They are gentle, preservative-free and suitable for sensitive skin.   I also like how FANCL is persistent about thirty-days supply packaging to keep products stay fresh through to the finish.  When you use products like these, you just feel great and joy.
