Not many of us may have heard of Goldleaf Restaurant who serve nostalgic Taiwanese Porridge. Even if we heard about them, we may not know that they started in 1971. This year, 2019, the iconic brand celebrates its 48th Anniversary.
Goldleaf Restaurant started whipping the wide variety of timeless Taiwanese dishes at its first outlet in Orchard. They are in the radar when they were at Amoy Street. Now, they have re-homed to 86 East Coast Road, serving the same delicious dishes.
48th Anniversary Promotion
Beside unveiling new dishes to celebrate its 48th Anniversary, Goldleaf Restaurant launched a promotion that offers diners a selection of classic dishes at$5.40 each. Diners can order three out of six dishes.
First out of the six, Golden Fried Mushrooms with Salted Egg, is my personal favourite. Since I love salted egg, it is little wonder why I would recommend this. Generous amount of aromatic salted egg coated the batter of the mushroom. Since it is lightly salted, I could eat it naked without rice or porridge.
Next is the Steamed Pork Patty with Salted Fish which I am surprised for the balance in flavour. Most are overly briny but this wasn’t. It was thoughtful of Goldleaf to include a unique vegetables to the promotion, the Tainan Olive Taiwanese Lettuce has an unqiue scent.
Crowd-favourite, Sambal Belacan Flower Clams is the must order. Aromatic fragrance from the sambal but not spicy surely make the dish addictive and will suit the young and the old.
Lastly, the Fried Minced Pork with Olives which is always a good dish with porridge or rice.
Sweet Potato Porridge
The Sweet Potato Porridge ($2.20) at the restaurant is free-flow.
Other Recommended Dishes
There are lots more delicious dishes at Goldleaf. Since I am a sucker for egg, fluffy Omelette with Chye Poh ($11.80) is on my recommended dish.
Crispy Pan-fried Cod with Specialty Sauce (Seasonal Price) is equally delicious. The sweet savoury sauce was the killer.
How could Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables ($18.80) be missing on the table at any porridge restaurant. The meat were fork-tender and has absorbed the essence from the braised.
Finally, worth a mentioned is the Fried Vermicelli. Even if you are opting for porridge, don’t missed out on this dish. Using Pami Vermicelli with a good chewiness that isn’t too tough provide the best texture. This vermicelli is available at Shell Petrol Kiosk islandwide,
With such an attractive offer and furthermore, Goldleaf Restaurant does not use any added MSG their dishes, there is no reason to turn away from. The 48th Anniversary pormotion is available on weekdays for both lunch and dinner till 31 October 2019.
