With each visit to Lille, I tend to visit a handful of restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide, hopefully, I will soon complete all. This post on Le Court Debout was long over due, however, I still would like to share my pleasant experience. Located at the south of city centre, since Lille is small, making our way there on foot is relatively convenient.
I shall not dwell too much into the interior since a picture speaks a thousand words.
Le Court Debout is yet another restaurant that did not offer English menu but only French. To make things worse, the service crew could hardly speak English.
This classic French restaurant serve Amuse Brouche after we are done with our order. A cheesy pastry and the other which I don’t recall what it was. In short, it was an impressive display of the Chef’s skill and technique in the dish.
Begin the meal with starters, Saint Jacques saisies au sesame, cremeux de topinambours, raviole de coquillages (€12), scallop with root vegetable mash and raviole. A tasty dish that left the palate wanting more.
We tried the Foie Gras chaud au pain d’epice, tatin d’oignons doux (€12), Foie Gras with warm bread and onions tatin. I am not a fan of onions but love foie gras.
Thrill to spot pigeon on the menu. I have huge affection for this bird somehow. Therefore, it was no brainer for me to opt for Pigeon roti, mousseline de panais, legumes oubilies (€25). In short, Roast pigeon with parsnip mash and a French root vegetable which I can’t find the English translation. I simply love every ingredient on the plate.
Le poisson du marche, risotto aux legumes, emulsion citron (€25) was the other Main we tried. As lovely as the former Main. The fish was fresh and the risotto was flavourful.
Nothing beat ending the meal with desserts, Entremet chocolat-whisky (€10) and Tiramisu speculoos-pomme caramelisee (€10) were our choice. We prefer the former as it was a well balanced dessert while the latter was a little too sweet and underwhelming.
Starters and Mains at Le Court Debout fare better than the desserts. Overall, it was enjoyable.
