There are 3 Novotel Hotels in Lille. Hotel Novotel Suites Gare Lille Europe, a 4-star hotel is my where I stay for my November trip. The 2 others are Novotel Lille
Directly opposite of Hotel Novotel Suites Gare Lille Europe is Gare Lille Europe, and close to EuraLille and close to La Madeleine and Lille city centre, making the hotel with excellent location. Furthermore, there is a metro right beside the hotel too.
Nothing fancy in the lobby. No high ceiling with chandelier but practical and functional with some contemporary ornaments.
Check-in and Out
Both checking in and out at Hotel Novotel Suites Gare Lille Europe was relatively swift. This is the only hotel that gets guest to pay full amount upon checking in. And at checkout, guest will pay the excess such as laundry.
Hotel staff speak simple English. None was fluent with the language except French, unlike the staff at Novotel Strasbourg Centre Halles.
At 30m², it was relatively huge. One of the bigger rooms for Europe hotels. I love the spacious room. Room consist of a large TV, aircon. The room was relatively warm in the cold autumn (even when temperature is below 10°C.
It is like a studio, with a separate bedroom and ‘living room’.
A pity the bed was with foam mattress which was relatively soft. Pillows were of no support, flat.
A good size working desk that double as dinning table with 2 electric European plug available. 2 electric plug on each side of the bed and the last was next to the toilet, near the entrance door. Total 5. There isn’t any USB plug available and no international standard ones too.
I was surprised to find an empty minibar and also the microwave. Not only I love the big television, I love the television programs offered by this hotel even more. There are fifty plus channels with almost 10 English channels.
Another pleasant surprised in the room. Not only complimentary tea and coffee were offered but Nespresso and chocolate were provided too.
Though the room was facing a highway, room was quiet due to the double window which sear the noise and also the cold.
The bathroom is separated from the toilet. One good point about the toilet is that a sink was provided. This is a practical design. However, the toilet stink.
In the bathroom, it is elevated from the bedroom area. Not handicap friendly though. Bath and shower room are separated. I prefer such design. There is a hairdryer.
No laundry line in the bathroom. In fact, no hangar bar as well.
I like the hand shower. The level was easy for adjustment. The water was hot enough.
Amenities were basic with soap, liquid bath gel, vanity set, shower cap.
The bathroom was not cold like most hotel room which I think it is good.
One improvement Novotel could implement is to have more handle bar so that guest could hang their towel for the next use. And the subtle unpleasant smell in the toilet area should be eliminated.
The standard is below average. I could spot hairs left by previous guest(s) in the bathroom; shower area and bathtub. In addition, the bathtub was full of dust, really unsightly. The bin wasn’t clear daily.
There is no restaurant, no room service, except for drinks. Instead what they offer are a convenience package food.
At a corner of the ground floor, the breakfast was served. Offering was the same with limited selection daily. You can expect a handful of bread, pastries, cheese and cold cut, yogurt, poached egg, cereal, milk, coffee, tea, juice and fruits. Through my stay 8 nights, no change to the menu. Though they do taste delicious, however, it is too boring to eat the same food.
There is no restaurant, bar or even spa. Except for luggage storage like all other hotels is available.
It was extremely unfortunate that my laundry was not sent to wash. The problem solving skill of the staff was considerably low. Eventually, I got sick of the tussle and proposed that they refund my expense for the clothing I buy from Carrefour, relunctantly, they said limit it to 50€. Eventually, they still insisted on offering me a day of free laundry, however, I didn’t want. Anyhow, finally, I got my refund of 18 plus Euro.
I made 2 reservations via booking.com for my stay in Hotel Novotel Suites Gare Lille Europe. One for check-in on 7 November and check-out on 10 November at € 534 (€ 178 each night) for Superior Queen Suite with Sofa Bed, comprising of 1 queen bed and 1 sofa bed. The second one was for Superior Queen Suite with Single Bed consisting of 1 twin bed and 1 queen bed from 11 November to 17 November at € 983 (€ 163 each night), however, this wasn’t the case. I got a room with a sofa bed instead of 1 twin bed.
Do note that if you want to accumulate nights for your Accor Hotel membership, you need to book directly with the hotel or via their website. I didn’t realize this until I was informed. What a shame! I wasted 8 nights, plus one night in Strasbourg.
Extremely unfortunate event happened at Hotel Novotel Suites Gare Lille Europe. I was glad it turned out well. As the location is convenient for me, I certainly would want to go back there again. Anyhow, there are many aspects for improvement, from service to housekeeping to design of the room.
I need to continue with my search of my ideal hotel in Lille. For now, I will alternate between Crown Plaza Lille.
