La Villa Casella is a relatively new restaurant when comparing to Chez Yvonne which has a long history. This Italian restaurant started in 1994. Relocated from its original location to the presence.
By the side of the entrance are two Olive Trees. I spotted olives hanging on the branches too.
Interior design of the restaurant isn’t up-to-date. It has this relatively 80s feel with the white linen draped the tables and glasses on the table elevate the look.
For Entree, I chose Tartara di capesante all’ananas, limone e granella di pistacchio (€14.90). Uniformly dice size of scallop and pineapple and of equal amount make-up of the two layers. And crowned with lemon and pistachio dusting. All the flavours were agreeable.
I have a soft spot for ravioli hence it was a no brainer that I chose he Dalla cucina romagnola, il classico raviolo ripieno ai funghi porcini, salsa al tartufo nero, parmigiano reggiano (€15.80) for Main. The pasta was al dente. The filling was made up of porcini mushroom with truffle butter sauce and dusted with Parmesan cheese on the top. I prefer it with a little more sodium added to flavour-up the dish.
At almost every restaurant in French, you will be able to find Café Gourmand (€6.50) on the menu. I love this item as I get the best of both world; a coffee and a platter of trio (usually) desserts. The trio desserts vary from restaurant and at times vary from days.
At La Villa Casella, when I was the Trios, they weren’t items I was looking forward to. First, it was a greenish Panna Cotta. Looking at the colour, it looks like artificial colouring was added. Since it was mint flavoured, it masked much of the subtle artificial colouring taste which I am sensitive to.
Next was the Mousse, again, I don’t enjoy it on its own. The mango-flavoured which I enjoyed compensated for the disappointment. Lastly was a Semi-freddo, though some may argue that it taste like ice cream, but in my opinion, it tasted like frozen cream. In short, it just taste different. However, to my surprise, this was rather pleasant as it was relatively light.
Pairing the dessert with nutty bold coffee was perfect.
La Villa Casella is an outstanding Italian restaurant. If you are craving for Italian food at Strasbourg, food served from this kitchen is worth the calories.
