The cafe scene in 2018 has somewhat came to a standstill until the last quarter buzzing with some cool cafes such as Homeground Coffee Roaster in the East and Apartment Coffee somewhat near south. An addition to the Northeast, Amber Ember.
With a bus stop right at the door-step, you may think that it is easy to locate, strangely, we missed them and passed them on.
Before anything, noticeably were the pink walls when entered. Even the menu was in almost the same shade of pink.
At Amber Ember, they specialise in Jaffle, both sweet and savoury. So what is Jaffle? Basically, they are Toasties. Other items include the Sharing plates, Pastas and Sourdough Toast.
3 selections of Pasta. It was an easy decision since no one will refuse food with Truffle, hence no-brainer, it was the Truffle Al Funghi ($16). Light truffle aroma and abundant shrooms; it was a shame that the pasta wasn’t al dente. We felt it was too soft for our liking. Furthermore, it was too bland for me too.
Eggs Marks The Spot ($12) was the better choice. How could a Toast with scrambled Egg,crispy bacon, saute mushrooms, melted cheese failed? Sriacha mayo added to give off a light spice flavour. In contrast, this Jaffle was too briny. It was the side that got us loving the dish, the purple sweet potato mash.
Our initial Truffle Parmesan Fries was missed out, and we changed our mind an added the A.F.C ($11) instead. Amber’s Fried Chicken Wings came with blue cheese ranch and sriacha, we didn’t notice the smelly cheese flavour, but only the highly brininess.
Since we are at a cafe, how could there be no coffee. Be it Black ($4), White ($5) or Mocha ($6) and even Filter ($7) is available for both hot an cold. Cuppa was with mellow medium body, acidity and aroma consisting of mainly ripe berry and nutty tone.
A one-page menu with Jaffles (savoury and sweet), Sharing, Pastas, Sourdough Toast, Drinks with Coffee and Non-Coffee option.
Chill cosy Amber Ember for chillax for catching up with friends over cuppa and some decent food.
