Thyme @ Rochester took over the space where Coffee Nowhere previously occupied. Set against a lushy green backdrop, making it the perfect Al Fresco dinning restaurant for lunch and surely for Weekend brunch too.
With an address 44 Rochester Park, it is easy to locate, however, the restaurant is hidden behind the white building which might easily be mis-looked.
At Thyme @ Rochester, beside the Ala Carte Menu, Value-for-money Weekday Lunch Set at $11.50+ is available with selection of Salad, Sandwiches, Pasta and Lunch Specials. We forewent this round and saved it for the next trip.
Diving into the Ala Carte, there are Appetisers & Snacks, Salads, Soups, Pastas, Pizza, Burgers & Sandwiches, Mains, Brunch and Desserts. What a comprehensive menu. There is something for everyone.
Sharing an appetiser, we chose House Meatballs with Pomodoro ($14). I am not a tomato fan while my friend find it too sour for her liking. And I must agree that it is sour but acceptable for me though. The ground meat is slightly too fine. I like the herb, seems like rosemary to me that augmented the beef flavour.
Moving into Mains, with Crispy Duck Confit with Pumpkin Mash ($23) being our first. Portion size is decent. Superb crisp duck with tender meat accompanied with grilled to perfection vegetable by the side. Too diluted Mashed Pumkin was the other side. It seems that the watery pumpkin was thickened with starch. Only if pure pumpkin was used for the mash, it will be excellent.
Full-flavoured Spaghetti Pancetta e Gamberi Aglio Olio ($19) was another wonderful item. Spicy, tasty, garlicky are some words which we used to describe this dish. Smokey grilled prawn was a little dry though and we prefer the pasta to be more al dente. It is certainly a dish we will come back for.
Ending the meal with Chocolate Lava Cake with Ice Cream ($11) was the excellent choice. We were amazed to find a cold lava cake with flowy bittersweet chocolaty sauce.
NAHMJ Verdict
Though there wasn’t any wow factor at Thyme @ Rochester, we thought the food was delicious and enjoyable. Price range was extremely affordable as well.
Lastly I was surprised that I wasn’t stunk by a single mosquito throughout the time at Thyme @ Rochester as I attract them easily.
