Located in a former warehouse at the Katendrecht peninsula is a small food hub known as Fenix Food Factory. Similar to Pasar Bella, whereby, the local entrepreneur came together for a cause, to showcase the local produces and craft.
At Fenix Food Factory, there are a total of 10 stalls selling different cuisines and specialty; ranging from fresh vegetables to cheese to sandwiches and even a book shop.
For those visiting Fenix Food Factory for the first time, you might want to get the platter which is available only for brunch. This allows diners to savour the highlights for the 10 stalls. We did just that as we felt quite lost and not sure of what to get. However, all the items for the platters are decided by the stalls, in other words, you can’t choose.
First approached the platter stand and purchase the platter. After payment, you get a heavy wooden plank and a card, whereby you used that to redeem for food at the 10 stalls.
First is the Booij Kaasmakers, a stall that sells cheese and fresh milk. Over here, we got 2 slices of hard cheese, a cup of fresh milk and a hard-boiled egg.
Followed by the Vleesplank where we claimed some cold cuts. This is a stall that offers a variety of cold cuts and ham.
Next, we moved on to Jordy’s Bakery where we get 3 slices of various types of sourdough. Besides these sourdough, you can get sandwiches and pastries.
Moving on to the next station, Meneer Tanger originated from the Moroccan coastal place Tanger sells delicious Moroccan tapas. These are similar to the Middle Eastern items. Over here, we got the hummus for the platter.
Subsequently, we got over to the Stroop Rotterdam which produce Netherlands fame snack, Stroopwafels. In addition to the original flavours, diners can savour a medley of interesting flavours. For the platter, we were offered the original.
De Groentemannen is where you can get your seasonal vegetables. There are 2 choices of vegetable soups for the platter.
The last on items for collection is from the Kaapse Kitchen. This kitchen is a space whereby chefs can have their own restaurant for one week offering diners with different cuisines.
For drinks, there are 2 options as well. You could choose either Cider from Cider Bar or Coffee from Stielman Koffiebrander.
Lastly, Firma Bijten isn’t on the platter brunch offers assortment of BBQ items.
Interestingly, Bosch&De Jong Boekverkopers offers a book in Dutch, since we don’t read the language, it is a waste to get one, instead they offered us a trail guide.
Finally, the complete platter (missing the coffee) looks like the above. Even though, it doesn’t look substantial, we were bloated from this amount of food.
The next round, I know what I want to get when I returned.
