Cafe scene in Singapore was rather quiet for the past year without interesting cafe to hop. However, some turning point develope in the month of March with Wakey Wakey, Bearded Bella and Common Man Stan by Common Man Coffee.
With success after their 2 cafe ventures (Common Man Coffee and Grounded by CMCR), both at Martin Road, now comes the third suituated at Stanley Street.
Golden furnishing on the fixture gives off an elegant vibe. Overall is filled with contemporary design theme.
The cafe offers, both indoor and outdoor dinning. There’s bar table, normal dinning table, cubicle and lastly communal table.
A page offers All Day Breakfast items which are offered from 7.30am while another Lunch Menu that starts from 11am. Lastly was a beverage menu with mainly coffee and tea. One drink that strike me was the Nitro-Tea which seems to be the rising trend.
Since coffee is their specialty, I certainly won’t miss this item and I got a White ($5) with choice Latte, Cappuccino and Flat White. If you read my posts, I sure you will get the correct answer. Yes, that was Cappuccino. Coffee at Common Man Stan is full body with medium acidity filled with cherry, chocolate and citrus.
I tried an item from the All Day Breakfast and the other from Lunch Menu. First was the Potato & Leek Rosti ($22) accompanied with 2 decent slices of toast with mushroom and 2 poached egg. It was a tasty and filling dish. Especially if you love leek, this is a delicious item to order.
Smoked Salmon Soba ($22) is a lunch item. I love the furikake, ponzu, sesame soy dressing on the Soba. Furthermore, the avocado with its natural healthy fatty acid added a smoothness and I thought it was a brilliant add. However, it was the too-soft Soba texture that disappoint.
Salted Maple Syrup Cheesecake ($12) has a surprisingly dense texture but consolation was the flavour was light.
Date & Chocolate Italian Torte ($12) has a taste and texture similarly to chewy chocolate brownie with a macaron-like outer. Diners have an option to add a scoop of Vanilla ice cream which I opted to skip this round.
NAHMJ Verdict
Though prices at Common Man Stan isn’t cheap, for the quality and taste versus price, service and ambience, I am willing to pay the premium.
And don’t forget to make your reservation when done over the weekends.
