In the midst of Bishan Park 2 with an address of Ang Mo Kio, this might be confusion. Anyhow, just head to the heart of the park and you will find ToriYard housed within a red-wall one-storey building which is easily spotted from afar.
This isn’t the first restaurant surrounded by green. Most must have been familiar with Casa Verde, The Garage and the fame Halia at The Botanical Gardens; the Vineyard at HortPark. We also visited Mookata at ORTO with similar concept.
ToriYard restaurant offers a medley of Japanese Meat Skewers.
Both indoor and Al Fresco seats are available.
Looking at the way the Chef sliced and skewer the meat and skin together seems a simple task but it is certain a skill developed after years of practise.
At ToriYard, the restaurant offers 11 sauces and condiments or dipping the meat.
Some suggetions for starters include Sashimi Salad ($19) with citrusy dressing.
The luxurious Onsen Tamago Cocktail ($17) in cocktail glass contains Foie Gras, Uni and Onsen is also an excellent choice.
If you enjoyed the Thai Stuffed Chicken Wings, Tebasaski Gyoza ($15) is a recommended choice. I prefer the skin tobe more crispy.
Tsukune Ohba Tsutsumi Age ($12) is a tempura of Chicken Ball wrapped in Perilla Leaf.
A wide range of Chicken Yakitori is available at ToriYard with my fave are Tebasaki, Chicken Wings ($4 per stick) and Momo, Chicken Thigh ($7 per stick). The Tsukune, Chicken Meatball ($8 per stick) is also equally delish.
A great choice before more meat, we have the Shitake, Mushroom ($4 per stick).
Other choices of Yakitori are the Gyu, US Angus Ribeye ($8 per stick) and Buta Kubi, Canadian Pork Neck ($5 per stick).
For seafood turn to Ebi, Tiger Prawn ($6 per stick).
For some carbohydrates, an excellent choice is the delicious Wagyu Fried Rice ($16); my absolute favourite even though I dislike rice.
Rounding up the meal with a light dessert, the Jikasei Chiffon ($14) is certainly my selection. This is a platter of homemade Matcha and Red Bean Chiffon Cake coupled with Vanilla Ice Cream and Warabi Mochi.
NAHMJ Verdict
No matter which part of the island you stay, making a trip to ToriYard for the authentic Yakitori is definitely worthwhile.
