Let’s Meat Up At Plaza Singapura, Wallet Friendly Charcoal Grilled With Rice Or Soba – Dhoby Ghaut, Singapore

A causal eating joint with a new concept has made the F&B scene at the basement of Plaza Singapura. It is Let’s Meat Up; offering charcoal-grilled proteins with choice of rice or soba, with other famous Japanese side dishes.

This restaurant is surrounded by famous brands such as LIHO, 4 Fingers and Burger King. Homogeneous tables and coloured chairs deck the industrial looking space.

I have yet tried the sides but focused on the Charcoal Grill instead. Diners could choose the desired protein such as Minced Chicken Bar, Mid Wings, Pork Chop and even Wagyu Beef is available. Next decide whether to have it with rice or soba. Finally, there is also an option for additional egg.

Got the very attractive Grilled Boneless Chicken Leg with Soba ($10.80) as the piece of meat was huge for its price. Teriyaki sauce lightly glaced the surface of the succulent chicken leg. Alternatively with Rice ($9.80). Overall, was filling.

Should rice or soba not your kind of carbohydrates, and you prefer bread, opt for the Power Bun. Choices isn’t as appealing as the grill since only 3 items are offered on the menu. I wanted to try to Pulled Pork but it wasn’t available, instead I turned to Chicken Bar Power Bun. Minced chicken with finely diced carrot mixed in the patty. The patty has a texture similar to fishball which I didn’t fancy. I like both the fries and greens with sesame dressing by the side.

Glad that dessert was on the menu too. Tried 2 out of 3 of them. First was the Sweet Potato ($6.80). When I saw how this dessert appear, I was disappointed. But when I was reminded of the price, there is nothing I could complain. Chunks of purple sweet potato line the side of the pan, with custard and ice cream sitting in the centre which didn’t complement the sweet potato. I thought the almond bites were a good add as the nuttiness bridge the various flavour a little together.

Let's Meat Up At Plaza Singapura, Wallet Friendly Charcoal Grilled With Rice Or Soba - Hokkaido Milk Pudding

Hokkaido Milk Pudding was cloyingly milky. And the texture was not as smooth and creamy. Fortunately, the cornflake like crunch was the saviour. The added crunch reduced the otherwise monotonous texture.

In a nutshell, there are room for improvement in the desserts. I would avoid ordering them on my subsequent visits.

NAHMJ Verdict

NAHMJ would return to Let’s Meat Up for its charcoal grill with soba or rice but shun away from the desserts.
