Strangely, the new brands from abroad are flocking to Tampines. We have recently tried Le Castella landed at Tampines One and we also have April’s Bakery in the vicinity, at Tampines MRT Station.
The April’s Bakery is facing Tampines Mall and is operating as takeaway only. We visited both Le Castella and April’s Bakery on a weekday and the sight are totally different. Queue was forming at the latter, while the situation here was quiet.
If you have yet heard about this famous bakery hailed from Bangkok, here is some introduction about them. Opened by a Thai named April offering Sweet Pie or perhaps better described as Hong Kong Wife Biscuits-inspired with multiple flavour.
On the day of my visit, there were 8 flavours on the counter; Sesame, Green Tea, Thai Milk Tea, Taro, Soybean, Pumpkin, Coconut and Custard. Since the promotion available that day was buy 4 get 1 free, I bought a total of 5 different flavours home to try. All the flavours I got was priced at $2 each.
The first flavour I tried was the Coconut. The texture does reminds me of the Wife Cake with the the soft and lightly chewy Winter Melon filling. Coconut was my least favourite and it was the sweetest among the 5 flavours we try.
Followed by both Pumpkin Pie and Taro Pie. Both were lightly sweet. It was a close fight. I could decide which I like better.
Next is the Sesame Pie. This one doesn’t has the chewy factor like the Wife Cake, instead the seasame paste was crumble. It was filled with Sesame fragrance. No doubt, someone who love Sesame will enjoy it.
Finally, the Thai Milk Tea Pie, which likewise the chewiness was absence. It was instead a creamy texture filled with Thai Milk Tea scent.
My favourite is the Taro and followed by Pumpkin. My least favourite is the Coconut.
