When I saw the address of Crab Corner 蟹天王, my inertia turned high. In case you still have not noticed their address from the title of my post, it is in the West, Joo Koon and to be exact FairPrice Hub. After consulting Google Map, the consolation was, it is next to Joo Koon MRT station. I was glad that I decided to make the trip as the standard of the food was high.
Locating Crab Corner isn’t difficult, since it is next to the MRT Station. It was so convenient till there was a bridge linking to FairPrice Hub hence no matter it was shine or rain, getting there is an easy feat.
Crab Corner has the typical the Chinese Seafood Restaurant look. There isn’t a typical interior design theme but with earthly tone chairs and functional tables, lots of round table which is the classic Chinese Restaurant feature.
We were presented with the Roasted Meat Platter comprises Roast Pork Belly, Roast Duck, BBQ Pork and last but not least the Soya Chicken. Each and every Roast item on the platter was well executed. The minor flaw might be the chicken meat was still quite red which I know of some friends who will refuse to eat chicken meat with such appearance.
Next is the Claypot Curry Fishhead ($26.80). I love their rendition as the curry sauce was thick, flavourful with the perfect balance of spices though some may lament on the slightly stronger coconut flavour, it was this particular point that I enjoyed. I could easily finish a bowl of rice with the gravy.
Flavours of the Honey Sauce Pork Ribs ($26.80) resembles the BBQ Pork aka Char Siew. Honey marinate was well-absorbed by the meat though some didn’t quite like this dish as they find the pork flavour too intesnse, with the same token, I love this flavour.
Among all the dishes we tried, Prawn With Cereal Flakes ($26.80) is my least flavour. As the aroma was weak and texture was not crispy enough. Though the size of prrawn was decent and since it was de-shell, it was convenient to enjoy.
Stir Fried Mushroom Fish Maw with Broccoli ($18.80) was another amazing dish. We love the Fish Maw. It has the perfect texture. It was not soggy, the light chewy texture existed. Most importantly, it soaked up the seasoning from the sauce. The entire dish was flavourful.
Claypot Chilli Crab (seasonal price) is another dish highly contestable. There are some who love it and some felt there is room for improvement. I belong to the latter. Sweetness was the first impression. Lucky, it only lasted for second. Next followed by the tomato flavour and finally spiciness. In addition, I find the sauce a little too diluted and tomato flavour-dominated the flavour.
We were amazed and at the same time surprised by the quality and standard of Crab Corner. To be fair, there weren’t any expectation in the first place.
