Chikalicious Dessert Bar isn’t a Shanghai brand. It hailed from New York. Nevertheless, it is worth a visit especially if you have never been to New York. It is similar to the more popular brand, Lady M, as both specialised in Crepe Mille Cake. I only tried Lady M in Singapore. Even if you did and enjoy the cake, a re-visit is always welcome. Or what about check out if the standard retained the same like the one in New York.
I have not been to New York, not to mention their Chikalicious outlet there. In fact, I got to know about them via a recommendation from a Shanghai colleague.
At this outlet, it has 2 storey. I went twice and took the level 1. The table were narrowly apart as such it isn’t very conducive. It get quite noisy when it is 70% full. But the dessert is surely amazing.
I tried 2 of their more popular selection. First is the Green Tea Crepe Cake 抹茶千层蛋糕 (RMB 78). I am not a fan of Crepe Cake as such when I was recommended by my colleague, I was skeptical about it. However, I was glad that I went with the recommendation. The crepe layer were moist and the green tea cream between the layer was thin and sufficient green tea flavour was savour.
Japanese Yuzu Cake 日本柚子蛋糕 (RMB 78) was another popular selection at Chikalicious. The Yuzu mousse was a little to soft. It seems it was well set, perhaps the time in the fridge was too short. Yuzu was lightly flavoured.
At Chikalicious Dessert Bar, they are using tea bags from Harney & Sons Master Tea Blenders.
Tried 2 tea, a green and a black; Cherry Blossom 烂漫樱花绿茶 (RMB 68) and couldn’t remember the other. Both were equally good. It really depend on what cake you order and perhaps preference influence the decision too.
NAHMJ Verdict
Chikalicious Dessert Bar offers delicious cake and tea worth a visit.
