Most of us know of some sort of cooking classes. Some are purely demo, while others may have hands on. What about hawit both the demo and hands-on together with entertainment? Do that sound fun? I assured you that it is fun-filled after experiencing my first class at Culinary On.
Who is Culinary On? Culinary On started in Moscow in 2012 and it is Europe’s largest edutainment culinary studio. The Singapore studio was opened in 2015. At their Singapore studio, currently, they have 3 Resident Chefs, 1 Executive Chef and 5 Guest Chefs for the array of classes ranging from baking to cooking a storm of various cuisines. I did the Modern Mediterranean together with a friend.
Before the start of the class, we were treated to 3 canapes and wines. Something light was prepared for our empty stomach as we will be enjoying what we cook in an hour time. The food offered was delicious.
Chef Daniel Teo was the instructor for our Modern Mediterranean cooking class together with his colleague Portia and his assistant and a Barman to offer wines for the participants.
We did three dishes in this Modern Mediterranean class. First was the Shrimp Salad with Parmesan and Avocado. Flambe prawns with flame worthy for a photo. We made the salad dressing from scratch. Finally, plated it and enjoyed it.
Followed by the Pasta Pappardelle with Duck Ragout. First and foremost, we stewed the Duck Ragout. Cut all the ingredients into dice. Fried the duck and the vegetables and finally stewed it with vegetable stock.
Even the Pasta Pappardelle was homemade using raw material flours and eggs. Kneaded it and went through the pasta roller.
Cooked the pasta in salt water and plate it.
Lastly was the Fruit Salad with Mango Ice Cream. Diced the fruits and scooped them into the glasses. Manually whipped cream via a friendly competition. Cheers on the participants from the floor. And certainly helps were chipped in too.
The Mango cream and whipped cream were mixed together and frozen using Liquid Nitrogen. Lastly, scoop it out to the glasses of fruit salad. Final touch with the fresh Passionfruit.
Now enjoy the fruit of labour.
At the end of the course, each participant was awarded a certificate.
NAHMJ Verdict
I enjoyed the Modern Mediterranean cooking class at Culinary On. A fun-filled evening, and especially so when doing it with friends. Beside enjoying the cooking lesson, the food, the drinks and we made some friends as well.
