When planning a trip to Kawah Putih and/or Situ Patenggang at Ciwidey, far south of Bandung, why not drop by one of the many strawberry farm. Our driver took us to Mr Dede Strawberry Farm Ciwidey.
From the entrance, Mr Dede Strawberry Farm Ciwidey is in its most humblest form. Soiled path with modest wooden plank hut. In short, it isn’t attractive at all. We could hardly spot the name of the farm. Only when one is more observant, you will see the wordings “Mr Dede Strawberry Farm Ciwidey” on the far left.
Admission to Mr Dede Strawberry Farm costs IDR 10k per person.
The strawberry farm isn’t huge. There were 2 sections, one in front and the other was at the back. We were brought to the latter half. Bags of soil with the grown strawberry pant are neatly lined up with good spaces for navigating through the area to pick the best strawberries.
Strangely, I have never visited a Strawberry Farm, though I have been to Australia a number of times. This was my first visit. So now I know how the strawberry flower looks like.
The surface of strawberry that faces the sun is usually in dark bright red, while the hidden side is orangish in colour.
Me too have a hands-on session of cutting the strawberries.
Harvest of Strawberry
After picking the reddest fruit in the park, proceed to the weighing station with our harvest.
Each kilogram of strawberry is at IDR 100K. Our pick was 290g, as such we paid IDR 29K.
The strawberries were extremely lightly sweet and lightly sour. It tasted very natural. Our largest strawberry pick was at about 3 cm.
NAHMJ Verdict
The strawberry at Mr Dede Strawberry Park Ciwidey is neither the sweetest nor the largest. The farm isn’t the glam or attractive too. But we thought it was a great experience especially for family with kids.
