Tai Cheong Bakery from Hong Kong first venture in Singapore was a counter at the Food Hall of Takashimaya located at Basement 2. After seeing Singaporean’s love for their egg tart, a second establishment, the Tai Cheong Bakery Cha Chaang Teng was opened at Hollang Village. This is a joint venture between the Food People Ptd Ltd in Singapore and Tao Heung Holdings Limited 稻香集团 in Hong Kong.
When I heard of the news, I couldn’t recall that there is any Tai Cheong Bakery Cha Chaang Teng in Hong Kong and indeed there isn’t. The Singapore outlet is the first such concept conceived from the Tai Cheong brand. I am a big fan of Tai Cheong’s Egg Tart and love Cha Chaang Teng food too, as such I am curious to find out how they fare.
At Tai Cheong Bakery Cha Chaang Teng, for the Mains, takeaway is not available currently. It is only for dine-in. However, if you would like some Tarts, each customer can purchase up to 4 boxes (4 tarts in a box).
One of the commonly found Cha Chaang Teng food is French Toast 西多土 ($6.50). I love the abundant maple syrup that drizzle over the thick fluffy bread. In addition, the bread has a good coat of egg. It tasted like the way my Mom made it.
Scrambled Egg Toast Stack with Chicken Chop 鸡蛋鸡扒多土 ($9.50) is another dish I relished. Fried chicken on a bed of creamy Mushroom Sauce, topped with the same type of bread used in the French Toast. Lastly, my favourite ingedient, EGG, in the form of Scrambled Egg on the final layer. Some may find the Scrambled Egg salty.
If diners don’t prefer chicken chop go opt it without or with luncheon meat instead.
Macaroni item is also another commonly sighted dish on Cha Chaang Teng menu. At Tai Cheong Bakery, they offer Three-Egg Macaroni Soup with Luncheon Meat 特色三蛋餐肉番茄通粉 ($8.50). I love the eggs. Despite not being a tomato fan, or rather I dislike tomato based soup, I enjoyed this simple delight.
Rice dishes are never missing too. Another egg dish, Three Coloured Silky Eggs with Rice 三色滑蛋饭 ($9.90) with 2 toppings. Choices include Roasted Pork & Prawns, Roasted Pork & Beef and lastly Roasted Pork & Crispy Pork Belly which was what we had. Personally, I find the dark soya sauce dominated the flavour.
I like the curry in the Beef Brisket Curry Rice 牛腩咖哩饭 ($10.90), lightly spicy and loaded with spice fragrance. For non-beef diners, opt for the Chicken.
The ever popular shortcrust pastry based Egg Tart 蛋撻 ($1.90) is Tai Cheong signature items which is a must order. A not so well-known item at Tai Cheong Bakery which I love is the Chicken Pie. I encourage all to give it a try. Other traditional bakes include the Coconut Tart 椰撻 ($2.50), Char Siu Bolo Bun 叉烧菠萝包 ($2.20)
Last item that we wanted to highlight in this post is the Durian & Cheese Tart ($3.60) which is exclusively available at the Holland Village outlet. Not available any where else and not even Hong Kong.
