Along Neil Road, gathered all the nature activist. First it was Apiary. Next was Epiphyte. And now, to complete the floral and fauna collection, we have the Botanist. This cafe though has an address along Neil Road but entrance is via a side alley. Looks like it is a trend to hide establishment. Some examples are Whale & Cloud, the first I knew. Next we have Maggie Joan’s, at Amoy. Follow suite are Gemmills Cafe and Burger Joints.
Though this quaint cafe is along a busy road, when entered, one will find it is in a world of its own. Sharing the same roof is Knockhouse, the roaster.
Divided into 2 sections, indoor and outdoor. We very much prefer the outdoor area since the world is surrounded with greens and natural lights sipping through the grills.
A good one page of menu offering brunch items. Started with Croque Madame ($18). It is indeed like a work of a Botanist. Decorated beautifully with greens, edible flowers and cherry tomato as good as piece of Art. This sandwich uses my fave bread, brioche. This version is not at all cheesy as what we would imagine.
We prefer the Guac Smash ($18) to the former. On top of the sourdough sat a layer of creamy guacamole. Further on, to add texture, fresh avocado together with tomato, beetroot, pinenut and cherry tomato were included. Above all, added feta cheese to enhance the flavour. By the side was 2 love poached egg that were with runny yolks.
8 more breakfast dishes were on the menu. With 2 salads, 2 pasta, a slow beef cheek and a burger were also offered.
Besides the usual coffee, other drinks include juice, soda, tea, beer and cider.
Both Black ($3.50) and White (3oz – $4.50, 5oz – $5, 7oz – $5.50) of the espresso based were available. Alternatively, opt for filter coffee ($6). What I truly enjoy is that at Botanist, cafe hoppers could choose the type of beans they preferred. Botanist offers 2 bean types for both the Espresso based and filter.
NAHMJ Verdict
We like the ambience while food was pretty delish too.
