Somehow Tiong Bahru Pau has decided to go into the Kopitiam arena as well with Sam Yat Coffee. I spotted it at Instagram and as we are craving for Kaya Toast, we thought we should check them out.
The kopitiam takes a slight modern vibes. Though no where close to the hipster cafe, certainly refreshing. I suppose it is due to the white wall tiles and the wooden tables used in the outlet.
At Sam Yat Coffee, since it is by Tiong Bahru Pau, you can find the various Pau here as well. The price of Pau offered at Sam Yat Coffee, at least for a start, is the same as Tiong Bahru Bahru Pau shop.
Some of the dishes such as the delicious looking Char Siew Rice aren’t available in the morning as these are only able for lunch.
One can find the Traditional Butter Kaya Toast ($1.60) of the good old days. The kaya wasn’t as fragrance. Other options include the Peanut Butter Toast ($1.60 for traditional / $2 for thick toast), Steamed Butter Kaya ($3), French Toast ($3) and Scrambled Eggs on Toast ($3).
Soft Boiled Egg were a little over-cooked.
Kopi and Teh were available but weren’t up to our standard. I left my cup of Kopi C untouched after a few sip. If one prefer to have a set, could opt for the Toast Set ($4.20) which consists of Kaya Butter Toast, Soft Boiled Egg and Kopi or Teh.
NAHMJ Verdict
There are rooms for improvement for the Breakfast food at Sam Yat Coffee. And what we will certain go after at Sam Yat Coffee is the Pau by Tiong Bahru Pau.
