I spotted Remboelan Soul Food @ Gandaria City in my August trip to Jakarta. I find the name interesting. Anyway, since it is a restaurant I have yet to try, I went for it. On a weekday, the restaurant was rather quiet.
Remboelan Soul Food @ Gandaria City has a modern finish with an elegant touch due to the gold used in the interior design. While the dinning furniture looks very normal.
As we flip through the thick menu, we notice the vast offering. A little swarmed by dishes as many we see it first time.
The first dish was Sate Campur (IDR 50k) with a mixture of both beef and chicken satay stick. Both were equally good.
Cumi Woku (IDR 60k) is squid ring fried with 7 types of herbs. Flavours of the dish was fabulous. A pity over-cooked squid with slightly too chewy texture.
Tahu Telor Petite (IDR 40k) is a fried tofu with egg served with a sweet sauce. Topped with lots of poached beansprouts and freshly shredded carrot. An appetising dish.
Nasi Kuning Rijstaffel (IDR 39k) is a dish of tumeric rice surrounded with small side dishes. Such as fried fermented soya bean (aka as tempeh), “Empal” beef, potato fritters, fried shredded coconut herbs, sauteed glass noodle, pickles and paper thin sliced omelette. I like the plentiful dishes that surround the cone-shaped rice. Overall, the taste was pleasant.
Aneka Bubur Remboela (IDR 29k) a dessert with familiar taste since there are coconut cream and gula melaka. Lots of crunchy and chewy balls and some pudding in this glass providing different texture. Nothing impressive but since I am always bias against gula melaka, I vote for it.
Colenak (IDR 25k) consists of fermented tapioca with grated coconut. Since it is fermented expect an unique flavour which we at the table identified it with alcohol.
Wedang Ronde (IDR 29k) a ginger drink with peanuts and glutinous rice ball.
Other drinks include Fruit Juice. We tried the Jus Kedondong Kiamboy (IDR 29k), basically, it is apple juice with sour plum.
Lastly our cold dessert, Es Cincau Hitam (IDR 25k). Jelly, grass jelly, jackfruit, avocado and basil seed topped the cup of shaved ice. What we didn’t appreciate is the red colouring added into the ice.
NAHMJ Verdict
After all, we enjoyed the savoury dishes more than the sweets. Dinning experience was pleasant.
