When the word cafe is mentioned, we tend to think of egg ben, cappuccino and so. But Sunset Railway Cafe isn’t whipping the typical cafe food, instead it features local fare. I was looking forward to my cafe hopping at Sunset Railway Cafe. Yet another one with local delicacies. The previous one I visited was Shen & Co which provided similar menu.
I am quite familiar with the area, since my sister used to stay at Clementi Park which is down the road. It wasn’t difficult for me to locate the cafe. To those who do not drive, some may find it a long walk from the nearest bus stop.
The Sunset Railway Cafe doesn’t have the hipster and cool factor in the design. I would describe it as a cross between vintage and modern.
Coming to the food, for mains, on the menu were Nasi Lemak ($6), Mee Siam ($6), Mee Rebus ($6), Curry Chicken with Rice or Bread ($7.40) and Chicken Macaroni ($4.70). You could have it as value set meals with either coffee or tea at $1.50 more.
Other food include Kaya Butter Toast, French Toast and Butter Toast. If you enjoy dessert, the must order is the Sugee Cake, a top favourite at Sunset Railway Cafe.
You won’t find the espresso based coffee instead you get the local coffee (Kopi) and tea (Teh). Though it is not cheap.
In general, food is delish though I thought there was room for improvement for the Nasi Lemak. The rice was grainy but lacking in coconut fragrance. It is great for diners who like it light.
I like the concept of Sunset Railway Cafe offering local delicacies with a cafe ambience, this comes with a premium though.
Generally, the service crews are friendly. Unfortunately, I have an unpleasant incident at the cafe. Will I go back again? Only if I were in the area.
