SOD Cafe @ Ci Yuan CC - Facade

SOD Cafe @ Ci Yuan CC – Hougang, Singapore

SOD Cafe @ Ci Yuan CC is the latest cafe set up by SOD Cafe who is dedicated in providing finest tea to consumers. They started with bubble tea at kiosk and now into a more formal cafe business. A little fun fact about SOD Cafe. It’s SOD stands for “Supper Oxide Dismutase” which is an antioxidant found in their tea.

The location of the cafe isn’t very accessible since it is neither close to a MRT station or along major road. Instead it is hidden among the residential flats.

The space is spacious and the best part was it was with a high ceiling.

SOD Cafe @ Ci Yuan CC - Menu

I spotted a few interesting dishes on SOD Cafe menu, such as Carrot & Orange Soup under the Soups & Starters, Smoked Duck & Eggs on Toast under the All-Day Breakfast. A number of Mains and Desserts mainly waffle, ice cream and cakes. For beverages, tea and coffee and some fruit soda were available.

Rosti With Sausage was the Sunday Special. I was informed it was newly introduced. No doubt it was tasty but I am sure most would find the portion a little small. There was an option to add Cheese or Egg at an additional cost.

Since SOD specialises in tea, I thought tea should be the choice drink. I looked around and observed that most ordered either the Summer Fruit SOD Tea or the SOD Milk Tea. I was inclined to the former.

The Summer Fruit SOD Tea was fruity and refreshing. It was the best drink to combat the heat. I felt I made the selection for the day.

The cakes at the display counter were too tempting to refuse. I got 3 cakes home for sharing.

SOD Cafe @ Ci Yuan CC - Oreo Cheesecake

I shared the Blackforest cake and Oreo Cheesecake with my Mom. Personally, I thought the Blackforest cake was more superior than the Oreo Cheesecake. In short, there was room for improvement for the latter.

SOD Cafe @ Ci Yuan CC - Tiramisu

I didn’t try the Tiramisu. As always, it was reserved by my brother. You may want to note that when diners choose to takeaway the Tiramisu an additional $2 for the glass bottle will be charged. so you may want to have it there. I would appreciate if the cafe could have some in takeaway plastic bottle.

NAHMJ Verdict

Despite the inconvenience, SOD Cafe @ Ci Yuan CC was crowded on a Sunday afternoon. Mainly supported by the residents staying in the area I suppose. Food wise, based on the Rosti and Cake I tried, it was generally delish. Service was amiable. Overall, I left the cafe with a good impression.
