A warm cosy and feel very much like home cafe sprung up at McNair Road which most of us wouldn’t be familar with this address. I located it on the map and notice that The Pantry Chefs Cafe was a few minutes away from Boon Keng MRT station. That wasn’t too bad a location, after all.
I am not certain what design theme the cafe was after, perhaps a little English with the prominent black and white checkers flooring. There was a bar table with two chairs for diners to watch the food preparation in process or one may prefer the cosy corner right at the back of the cafe.
As I was at the cafe during their soft launch, menu wasn’t finalised yet. There was only a board chalked with a few very simple dishes. Since then The Pantry Chefs have a decent menu ready.
The only Mains available back then was Pasta but it was with tomato sauce which I don’t fancy so I got the Chicken Pie since it was highly recommended by the server at the cafe. It was a creamy chicken filling with flaky pastry.
I spotted some pretty Rainbow Cake over the shelves but was told there were Carrot Cakes too. The carrot cake was lightly spice with fluffy cake texture instead of the usual denser carrot cake. Since the Carrot Cake was a three-layered slice, there was a good amount of cream cheese frosting.
Coffee was pretty decent too. Low acidity, full body with nutty hint.
Though The Pantry Chefs may not be a cool hipster but I like the warm and friendly owner and staff at the cafe and of course the ambience and the decorations. With more food added, giving diners more variety, that would certainly be a plus point too. I certainly hope it will stay this way. It is a cafe great for family.
