The Disgruntled Chef - Interior Seatings

The Disgruntled Chef (The Club) Restaurant – Ann Siang Road, Singapore

The Disgruntled Chef (The Club) on Ann Siang Road is the second establishment. This one has a different theme and catering to different group of customers, targeting mainly the business group with a different menu from the one located at Dempsey too.

The Disgruntled Chef - Bar Counter

Once entered to the restaurant, one would start eyeing around as you will see a big empty space. On the left of the entrance was an elegant bar counter while to the right was some tables.

The Disgruntled Chef - Ala Carte Menu

On weekdays, beside the Ala Carte Menu, The Disgruntled Chef offered Prix Fixe Weekday Lunch (Set) with option of 2-course ($38) consisting of a small and big plate or 3-course ($45) with the third being the pudding. Basically, that’s desserts.

3-course lunch was our choice.

Small Plate

Tuna Carpaccio and Seared Scallops were our choice among the small plate.

The Disgruntled Chef - Tuna Carpaccio

We find the Tuna Carpaccio a little too fishy for our plate. The side salad was with a lightly sourish vinaigrette dressing.

The Disgruntled Chef - Seared Scallops

The Seared Scallops sat on cauliflower couscous were perfect.

Big Plate

2 of the Big Plate required an addition of $6; Pan Roasted Onglet and Braisedd Lamb Shank. We opted for the former as one of the Big Plate.

The Disgruntled Chef - Pan Roasted Onglets

The Pan Roasted Onglet was sat on a bed of lyonnaise potato and greens with mushroom ragout. As it used the Chinese Mushroom, the ragout was strongly filled with this unique flavour. We thought it went well with the onglet. The only complaint about this dish is I find the meat too tough to chew on it.

The Disgruntled Chef - Grilled Kurobuta Pork Collar

The other set was the Grilled Kurobuta Pork Collar with apple puree, braised cabbage and red wine sauce. Don’t be deceive by its look. It was tasty. The rest of the ingredients on the plate complemented well with the pork.

One diner prefers the Onglet, the other the Pork (that’s me).

Pudding

Finally, it was time for desserts. First was the Strawberries & Mascarpone with lightly flavoured pistachio sponge, burnt marshmallow, basil lime meringue. In this plated dessert, all I remembered was the taste of the strawberry.

Next was the Chocolate Croquette accompanied by Coffee jelly, Sumatra Coffee Cream and Kahlua. Chocolate and Coffee was the flavour note of this dessert.

Personally, I prefer this to the former.

NAHMJ Verdict

We thought our lunch at The Disgruntled Chef (The Club) was reasonable all right with more hit than miss. But I am sure, they could do better than our virgin experience at this new outlet. And for some, the portion may be a point of feedback too.
