Woo Ricebox is widely known as Woo (悟饕池上飯包) in Taiwan. It has 70 years of history serving the traditional Taiwan rice boxes (池上飯包). Its first outlet in Singapore is established at Ocean Financial Centre in 2013. Subsequently a second at Jurong Point.
Woo Ricebox offered 3 types of Riceboxes. With Fried ones and Braised. Each has 5 selections. Lastly the Healthy version Riceboxes, only 2 options are available. Each Ricebox is pre-packed with selected ingredients.
Some of the ingredients such as the Spicy Drumstick are part of its Ala Carte Menu too.
Fried Ricebox
In the Fried selections, you will find Woo’s Pork Chop Ricebox, Spicy Drumstick Ricebox, Crispy Chicken Cutlet Ricebox, Golden Pork Cutlet. Lastly the Taiwan Roast Pork Ricebox.
Spicy Drumstick Ricebox, F3 ($8.90)
The Ricebox is an individual portion, good for 1 person. For small eater, like myself and my sister, we could share a ricebox.
Beside the huge Spicy Drumstick, which isn’t spicy at all, the ricebox was packed with cabbage, sweet preserved vegetable, braised beancurd, half a braised egg and a thin slice of Taiwan sausage.
Braised Ricebox
Under the Braised Ricebox category, 5 selections were provided. There’s the Woo’s Signature Ricebox, Railway Pork Chop Ricebox, Spicy Braised Chicken, Braised Minced Pork and Unagi Ricebox.
Railway Pork Chop Ricebox, B2 ($9.90)
This selection has a generous piece of Pork Chop sat on cabbage, broccoli, braised beancurd, half a braised egg and sweet preserved vegetable.
It was appertizing. The best part was each spoonful of rice never went without any ingredients.
Soup (Ala Carte)
Each day, there are a few kind of soup. Minced Meat Ball Soup is one of the them.
Lots of vegetables and a mushroom found in the tasty soup.
Verdict
Ingredients in Woo’s Ricebox was certainly abundant. But it was lacking of gravy. It is definitely a good option for takeway, even one might be travelling quite a distance. But I still prefer my rice with lots of gravy. It would be awesome if they could provide the gravy in a package just like the way the ketchup and chilli sauce were packed.
The consolation is the ingredients in each box is tasty and generous t to accompany each mouthful of rice. Importantly, the rice is of perfect texture, not too grainy or too wet.
