Curious Palette Cafe - 64 Prinsep Street

Curious Palette Cafe, Cafe Hopping On Tuesday With A Good Cause – Prinsep Street, Selegie, Singapore

By the same folks behind Stranger’s Reunion, their third cafe Curious Palette was established at Prinsep Street. With a newly white-washed facade of the shophouse hence it stood out at a corner. Unfortunately, it was well hidden behind the flight of stairs of the overhead bridge from the opposite of the road. You won’t sight the usual signage by tilting up your head. Instead, looked down for a small blackboard with the name “Curious Palette” chalked in white.

Interior was tastefully decorated with a mixed of material. I was a little surprised to find to 2 Espresso machines on the bar counter.

Menu

Two food menu were on Curious Palette. First was the All Day Breakfast, serving from 12 to 6pm. In this menu, you will see mainly breakfast dishes that were improvised. The second is a Dinner menu serving from 6.30pm. On it were risotto, pasta, some steak and burger dishes.

Soups, Salad, light bites, waffles and desserts are served all day. And of course you get a page on beverages. Beside the usual Espresso Based Coffee, there are 3 hand-brewed coffee offered.

From All Day Breakfast Menu

Soft Shell Crab Burger

A whole soft shell crab was seated on a bed of green sprouts topped with wasabi slaw in homemade aioli and togarashi and half an avocado sliced. These were on a thick burger bottom. And with lightly drizzled chili oil on the plate.

Despite lots of sauce and oil were added to the dish but taste-wise was still rather bland. And the green tasting sprout might prove a little too raw for non-herbivores. Anyhow, I like it. In addition, personally, I find the burger a little too thick for the ingredients.

Baked Eggs

The Baked Eggs from Curious Palette was with picante, peperonata, homemade goat’s cheese, curry macadamia nuts served with a ciabatta bun, sliced into halves laterally with butter.

There was an option of Iberico chorizo as add on which I opted for.

As usual, Baked Egg dishes are commonly stronger tasting, flavourful and rich dish. This is no exception. The main flavours were tomato and red pepper fragrance. The macadamia nuts provide a nutty flavour note and crunch to the dish. With the Iberico Chorizo, it increases the saltiness level.

Coffee

In addition to the Espresso Based Coffee, Curious Palette serves Aeropress, Syphon and Drip coffee.

Espresso Based Coffee – Cappuccino

The cup of Cappuccino was prepared with lovely complex Latte Art which I like.

It was a blend with full body, medium acidity, nutty and dark bitter chocolate flavour note.

Drip Coffee

I tried the hand drip coffee.

The cuppa was using the Guatemala Finca Santa Clara Coffee Beans

According to the tasting note, it is a complex sweet fruity cuppa with a dark chocolate finishes. I do find the flavour note complex but dominated by pineapple fragrance with bitter sweet chocolate flavour hint.

Verdict

Curious Palette serves some interesting improvised fare. Take note that it charges both GST and service charge, the bill could be pretty steep.
