Angelina has landed its first Tea Room cum Boutique at the Capitol Galleria, offering both dine-in and takeaway option. I was pretty excited as I enjoyed pastries. With this prestige brand offering much lovely delectable pastries, it is a welcome addition to the Singapore Patisserie scene.
The space at Capitol Galleria is decked with the Parisian elegance and charm, very much like the Angelina at Paris.
I brought my Mom there for lunch to indulgence in the luxurious and fine pastries and food that Angelina has to offer.
Main Courses
After browsing through the menu, I was charmed by the Truffle Ravioli, served with parmesan cream and rocket salad.
Truffle scent was strong in both smell and taste. The parmesan cream paired well with the ravioli. I find the pasta that wrapped the ravioli a little to tough. I prefer it to be a little softer. I believe some may find it a little blend. Perhaps a little dash of salt and pepper will perfect the taste.
Snack
My mom went for Croque Madame. A mesclun salad with vinaigrette dressing and shoe string french fries were by the side.
Croque Madame, like the Croque Monsieur, is a safe dish. Nothing could go wrong with this dish as long as ingredients used were fresh and of high quality.
Pastries & Cakes
There are two signature items, which are the must eat in Angelina. The first being the Mont Blanc which I wouldn’t want to give it a miss.
This pastry is composed of meringue at the bottom and whipped cream topped on it. Lastly, with the chestnut paste vermicelli finishes at the outer layer. It has a nice vanilla aroma coupled with the chestnut fragrance for one to relish on. However, it is pretty sweet if you are having it one mouth after another. You need to savour it with sip of tea in between to fully savour the fineness.
Macaroons
We wanted the Tarte Citron (Lemon Tart) but it wasn’t available so instead, I decided to try the Macaroons.
There were choice of small or large macaroons. As I wanted to try more flavours, I went for the petite ones.
The four small macaroons that we ordered, (from left, clockwise in the photo above) were Mont-blanc (chestnut), Chocolat-Passion (Chocolate Passionfruit), Framboise (Raspberry), Pistache (Pistachio). I was allured by the Pistachio though not a fan of either Macaroons or Pistachio. We wasn’t too impressed with the chestnut as the flavour wasn’t as captivating as the rest.
Drinks (Hot & Iced)
The second signature item at Angelina is the African Chocolate drink with three carefully selected African cocoa from Niger, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire at a secret composition mixed.
Beside the chocolate drink, there are many other selections such as coffee, tea and many more. The second drink we ordered was the Angelina Tea Blend. It is a Oolong Tea base with fruity fragrance.
We were delighted with the food, especially the pastries. As for the service, much improvement is required. Though service was friendly and warm, it was slow even when the restaurant was at less than half of its capacity. When full, it was a little chaotic. To make things worse, we sat by a side (far side), even when we waved frenetically for a few good minutes, we wasn’t notice. The service manager (I suppose he is) served us the Mont-blanc without the cutlery. Though he promised that he will bring it to us in a while, has forgotten totally about it. In short, you need to have the time and patience to dine at Angelina Singapore, at least for now.
