Hotel Sintra Macau 新丽华酒店 is located at a very central location at Macau Peninsula. It’s within walking distance to major attractions such as Senado Square. It is also close to lots of good and famous food (Cafe e Nata Margaret). And some major hotels such as Grand Lisboa and MGM. These are the reasons why I chose Hotel Sintra Macau.
The design is a telltale sign that it is an old hotel. Nothing extravagant.
When I stepped into the hotel, I felt it looks decent. There is a small casino at the ground floor of the hotel too.
We were allocated Room 1114. My mom felt the room looks pretty comfortable and decent. This is an adjoining room. I never like such a room.
The bed has a good toughness. It was not the soft kind but a little on the hard side which I prefer.
Unfortunately, there was a cigarette smell in the air. Even though we were on a non-smoking level. Not sure if it was due to the air condition circulation or some guest smoking at the adjoining room. Neither situation is good.
The room was far too cold. No matter how I adjust the themostat, the room temperature is still extremely cold.
My booking came with a free Internet but it did not work well. First, my userid and password provided was not working. After which, I kept getting disconnected from the Internet. And I gave up on it.
I found only 2 + 1 available power sockets for use; 2 sockets for the 3-rectangular pins (UK) and 1 sockets for the 3-round pins (India). Unfortunately, one was not working.
The bathroom was pretty tiny. For a large build, might have some challenges to maneuver within the space. The consolation was the bathtub, it is a jacuzzi bathtub. I was thrilled.
Hotel Sintra provides free shuttle between the hotel and the Macau Ferry Terminal at a 30 minutes interval. the first shuttle leaves the hotel at 9 am. The last leaves the ferry terminal at 8.45 pm.
The shuttle bus stops at the shuttle bay of the Ferry Terminal, which is across the ferry terminal via an underground. A bell boy was stationed there to assist guests.
There are 1 other hotel’s and 1 casino’s free shuttle that stop outside the hotel. One to City of Dreams (at Cotai) …
… and the other to Oceanus
When we reached the hotel, the bell boys did not help us with the luggage. When I need help with my login to the internet, the staff asked me to go down to them. Instead of sending someone to my room. I went down and I was demanding. Finally they got a bell boy to assist me in the room to ensure that I login successfully. When we were leaving the hotel, finally a bell boy helped us with the luggage to and from the shuttle bus. All in all, service was average.
Other Amenities and Restaurants
There is only a casino found at the ground floor of the lobby and a restaurant at the first floor. There isn’t any gym or swimming pool.
I booked at $204 per night (exclusive of 5% Tax and 10% service). This is for 11 April 2014.
To sum up, if you need a decent room for a night or two, at a great location, Hotel Sintra Macau is certainly awesome. Personally, I won’t book it again as I can’t tolerate cigarette smoke at all. This is definitely a No, No for me.
