Tim Ho Wan (添好运) is also available in Singapore and I am very keen to try the one in Hong Kong to determine if the Dim Sum offered by Tim Ho Wan in Singapore having the same high standard as Hong Kong.
I read a few blog and found that the Sham Shui Po outlet is larger and waiting time in general is shorter. And to be on the safe side, we decided that we should be there as early as it open for the day.
We reached the outlet at about 8.15 am, the restaurant was pretty empty, by 9 am it was filled to almost 90%. After our breakfast dim sum, at about 9.15 am there still wasn’t any queue.
At Tim Ho Wan, the must-order are the Four Heavenly King (四大天王);
Pan Fried Turnip Cake (香煎萝卜糕),
Steamed Egg Cake (香滑马来糕),
Vermicelli Roll stuffed with Pig’s Liver (黄沙猪润肠),
and among the four the most famous being Baked Bun with BBQ Pork (脆皮焗叉烧包) …
… And we also order other all time favourites like the Steamed Pork Dumpling with Shrimp (鲜虾烧卖皇) and
glutinous rice dumpling (古法糯米鸡).
The verdict … ?
It does taste pretty similar with a slight different in taste in the Steamed Egg Cake and Baked Bun with BBQ Pork. The Hong Kong version of Steamed Egg Cake has a stronger taste in brown sugar and the Baked Bun with BBQ Pork has more sauce in the bun. All in all, the Hong Kong version does taste a little better than the Singapore version.
