Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel 上海淳大万丽酒店, a five-star hotel, is located along Yingchun Road, north of Century Park. There are 2 subway stations in the vincinty with line 9, Yanggao Rd station, north of the hotel, while line 2, Shanghai Science and Technology station is towards the south-western direction, about 10 minutes and 15 minutes walk respectively.
It is a hotel of 27 floors , 348 rooms and 15 suites. The hotel is not connected to any shopping mall like some that do. However, there are 2 huge mall on the east of the hotel, approximately 10 minutes walk. There are quite some restaurants, a bakey and a supermarket near to the hotel too. It is surrounded with residential building hence environment is quiet.
Check-in and Check-Out
Both check-in and check-out processes were swift. During my stay, I didn’t observe a beeline at the counter which was a good sign. In addition, staff are equipped with good English command. They could hold relatively fluent conversation. But of course, they are still more comfortable in their mother language, Mandarin.
This trip my room number was 2411. I got the Club Room with breakfast at CNY 1145 for the period of 26 February 2017 to 4 March 2017. The room is 30 sqm, the smallest among the China hotel I have stayed. For this room type, guest could access the club lounge which is open 24 hours. Complimentary food include Continental breakfast, midday snack, hors d’oeuvres, dessert, Cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, business services and local calls and international calling card access. Furthermore, guest is entitled to 50 percent discount on Laundry/Dry Cleaning/Pressing service.
Though I requested for a King size bed as it wasn’t available during my check-in, I was offered the Twin Bed which I didn’t mind. But what I mind was both bed, there was dipped in centre. Indicating worn mattress which are due for replacement. Both beds have it. One was worse than the other. Pillows were too soft and low. They doesn’t support the neck. I was a slightly turned off by the bed sheet and pillow covers as there were some awful stains.
Room 2411 receives the morning sun with view of residential blocks.
Room lighting are warm but there is a white light stand on the working desk which provide sufficient lighting for working. Furthermore, I was glad that they offered international power point. In addition, room at Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel has one of the best room temperature control as it is sensitivity and accurate.
I like bathroom with separate shower area and bathtub which this hotel offers. And for those who need to do their own laundry in the hotel, a laundry line is available for guests to hang their washed clothes to dry.
There are 2 shower types, a hand shower and a head shower. For the hand shower, there are 2 spray patterns, jet and rain spray adjusted by buttons. A pity, the shower rail can’t be adjusted.
Complimentary toiletries are available with shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, body lotion, shower cap, toothbrush, soap, shaver and etc. In short, the necessities are available.
However, I am perturbed by the date on the shower gel and etc. I am assuming that these are expiry date which are all in 2016.
There is a safe, a flat screen TV and a small wardrobe, with iron & ironing board, an umbrella, bath robe, hair-dryer and slippers in the room too. Complimentary tea and coffee and bottled water are also available. There is also a mini-bar with milk tea, soft drink and chocolate.
Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel offer both cable and satellite TV with some international channel such as CNN, ESPN and HBO.
Level 6 is the level with Gyms, Swimming pool and massage centre.
Gym is small but looks like they are equipped with the basic equipment such as treadmill, weights and complimentary fitness classes are also available. There was a gym instructor stationed in the gym too.
I estimated the pool to be about 10m in length and 5m in breadth with one end of l.4m deep while the other end at 1.6m deep. Enter the pool via the changing rooms.
Steam and Sauna are free while massage services are at a fee.
Within the hotel, there are 5 restaurants. First and foremost is the Renaissance Brasserie on the second floor, where the hotel breakfast buffet is served.
At the same floor, there is Wan Li Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant serving Shanghainese food.
On the ground floor, on the right of the hotel entrance, is the Japanese Restaurant, Reizenya Japanese Recipe.
Beyond the lobby is both the Gourmet Shop and Shanghai Bar.
Guests doesn’t need to access the room levels with their access card. In other words, public could freely access the room levels which I felt it wasn’t as safe as it could. The very least, the surrounding wasn’t rowdy.
More services are offered by Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel, such as 24-hour room service, business services such as copy, fax, messenger, network/internet printing, postal, secretarial and translator services in the business centre.
And the service I appreciated most is that staff are stationed at the lobby to help guest with cab. It isn’t easy to flag cab down especially in the morning.
The decoration in the club lounge seems English with the classic black and white.
For guests who booked the club room and above enjoys their complimentary Continental breakfast, midday snack, hors d’oeuvres, dessert, Cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages here.
I got the Club Room with breakfast at CNY 1145 for the period of 26 February 2017 to 4 March 2017. It isn’t the cheapest among the hotel in Pudong but decent with a range of value-added services.
This isn’t the most grand 5 star-hotel and it has the smaller rooms as compared to many other hotels in China. But what they offered instead is stellar 5-star service.
