Though I know that Sawadee Thai Cuisine Restaurant has been around for sometimes and since I have been passing by, I never once thought of trying them as there are so many interesting, cheap and good Thai restaurants in Singapore. But since my cousin came back from the UK suggested it, so why not.
When one spotted their restaurant, some may feel that they are a high end Thai restaurant contributed by their classy and elegant interior design. After all, we still feel casual, it doesn’t has the fine dinning vibe.
Sawadee Thai Cuisine Restaurant boasts a handful of chef’s recommendation. One of which is the Thai Styled Fish Cakes. We enjoyed the lightly chewy texture but we felt the spice flavourings in the Fish Cakes were too light.
Tom Yum Soup ($12 small) is another recommendation. We love the sourish and spicy punch but felt the overall scent was underwhelming. The other highly recommended which is also highly raved by food bloggers is the Thai Coconut Chicken Soup ($13). I am keen to try it on my next trip.
2 Panaeng Red Curry were identify as recommendation; Panaeng Red Curry Roast Duck ($17) and Panaeng Red Curry Crabmeat ($20). We opted for the former and no regret. There are some canned lychee in the curry and we enjoyed them since it was extremely tasty and refreshing with the red curry. For the curry, I ended up having more rice than I usually would.
Thai Stuffed Chicken Wings ($12 for 3) were very much like De-bone Fried Chicken Wings as there isn’t minced meat stuffing, only with a mushroom and a few chopped long beans.
Contemplated between a fish dish or prawn and ended up with the Three Flavoured Prawns ($18 small). It was an appetising dish. One may easily consuming more rice due to the gravy.
With all meal, having no dessert doesn’t seems complete. 4 dessert option with Mango and Stick Rice ($7) and Mao Shan Wang Durian Sticky Rice ($12) as the recommendation. We ordered the latter since it is as common as the former. Somehow, we felt Mango pair better with sticky rice. Furthermore the rice was a little dry.
NAHMJ Verdict
Nothing wow us but generally the taste of the dishes were with the right notes.
