When I was told about Fasta, I went “What’s this?” Later did I realize that it is a pasta shop. Deep in my heart was not again. The last I tried was Pasta Meat Sauce at East Village. Fasta seems like a word derived from fast and pasta.
Shop space is pretty tiny. With the counter and kitchen taken up about a third of the area, leaving the rest for 4 round tables good for 4 person. There is an eye-catching wall painting in street art style.
At Fasta, they offer both standard bowl and customised bowl in either Warm or Cold. Under the standard bowl offerings, 4 Warm Bowl namely Scallop Wallop ($10.50), Chickinaki ($9), Shio Ba Mee ($9) and Salmon Confetti ($12.50). While the 4 Cold Bowls are Smokey Quacky Duck ($8.50), Vegan Fox ($8), Unbelievable with avocado and chocolate ($8) and Tuna Poke ($12). I was informed that the best seller among these is the Chickinaki.
Choices of pasta are Angel hair, Linguine, Orzo, Spaghetti and Tagliatella. And interestingly, I don’t find the usual tomato or cream sauce in the menu.
I had the Chickinaki ($9) for the warm bowl with Linguine. The chicken was tender and tasty and the sesame seed does elevate the flavour. The pasta is with Signature House dressing. No other description provided as such I have no idea what to expect. I didn’t like the pasta at the first mouth, as I thought I tasted tomato sauce. Interestingly, at subsequent mouth, I begin to appreciate the flavour which taste a little tangy with sesame flavour.
Tuna Poke ($12) a cold bowl with Angel hair pasta and additional Sous Vide Egg, Avocado and Pumpkin was less inviting. Nonetheless, I certainly enjoy the fresh ingredients that were present in the bowl.
However, if standard bowl is not appealing. Go ahead and create your fun Fasta Bowl starting from $6.50.
NAHMJ Verdict
At such an economical pricing at Fasta, most could afford to enjoy the freshly prepared bowl of pasta with quality ingredients.
