Our Cha Thai revisit was almost a year a part since my first visit in July 2015. The same decor and design remain after a year. We didn’t find any addition or subtraction to any accessories or so. Overall, how did we find the standard and quality? Read on to find out more.
The menu seems a little different from when it started, though I couldn’t exactly remember what was in the initial menu. But it seems all their signature dishes are still available.
Cha Thai Revisit
The intend of Cha Thai Revisit was to try different dishes. Especially on dishes that we were tempted on our first visit but didn’t get to try.
Drinks
This round we went for the Smoothie instead of the usual Thai Milk Tea, Lemongrass Tea and Butterfly Pea Tea which we tried at our first visit. Two of the recommended Smoothie are Thai Green Tea Smoothie and Coconut Smoothie. We requested for less sweet and it was to our liking.
The other 2 smoothies are Thai Milk Tea and Honey Mango Smoothie. All at $4.90 each.
Appetizers
Started our Cha Thai Revisit with a number of appetizers. First was the Crispy Prawn Cake ($15). Oh my, the prawn cake was extremely bouncy in texture and lightly coated exterior crispy batter.
Followed by the Creamy Crab Roll ($15). The key is in the dip. Extremely lightly spicy and filled with coconut fragrance and tons of crab meat. The roll are basically simple dumpling wrap; deep-fried to golden brown.
Thai Starters
Moving on to the Thai Starters, we have the Green Mango Salad ($16). Rich and flavourful but was too spicy for my tolerance.
Lemongrass Prawn Salad ($28) is another spicy Thai Starter too. Beside going after the large prawn, remember to go after the reddish lemongrass and minced pork mixed which are the essence of the dish.
Curry
At Cha Thai Revisit, we tried a red and a green curry. Both were equally amazing. Good news for the low spice tolerance, we are sure you will be able to enjoy these 2 dishes. First my preferred Signature Tiger Prawn “Panang” Curry ($28) since it has my favourite ingredient, prawn.
Subsequently, the Chicken Green Curry ($18), less prefered as they uses mainly chicken breast meat.
Vegetables
Never missed out on the Saute Egg Plant with Sweet Basil ($16) at Cha Thai. Likewise for our Cha Thai revisit, this was on the table again. This dish at Cha Thai has a robust Basil flavour. Unlike most which the basil is hardly savour.
Next the Crab Roe Paste ($18) with tempura and fresh vegetable. Quite a refreshing dish. It was our first time seeing such a dish at a Thai Restaurant.
All Thai Favourites
When I saw the Thai Curry Crab ($28), we were skeptical. As we usually prefer the crispy exterior softshell crab. Anyhow, we were totally wrong. In fact, the Thai Curry sauce provided another type of tasting experience. And we love it.
Chicken with Bird’s Chilli ($18) is another dish using breast meat. This dish suppose to enjoy together with the tiny small green chilli. If otherwise, the dish flavour is simple garlicky soy.
Next is the Premium Giant Tiger Prawns Glass Noodle Claypot ($159). This luxurious claypot of glass noodle is due to the Premium Giant Tiger Prawns used. The glass noodle is lightly flavoured.
Noodle
Pad Thai ($22) is always a favourite dish at Thai restaurant. As such we went for it again at this Cha Thai revisit. Somehow, this round it was sweeter than expected. Some felt it was due to the lacking of Thai Fish Sauce.
We tried something which we have never seen in Thai Restaurant menu, the Dumpling Vegetarian Tom Yum Soup ($18). I like the Tom Yum Soup but not so for the dumpling. I find the dumpling skin a little to dense and thick for the amount of filling. Moreover, I didn’t enjoy the vegetarian fillings too.
Cha Thai Toast
For those working around the hood might have notice queue for the Charcoal Toast ($8). And I am sure some may be wondering if these unassuming black looking toast are worth the time to queue. And YES is my answer. Available in Pandan and Milk Tea flavour dips.
The toast has all the perfect elements; crispy, fluffy and so on. We love the Milk Tea dip more.
Dessert
Finally, coming to the end of our Cha Thai Revisit is also dessert time! First we have the Emerald Jade ($8), aka Green Ruby and Red Ruby ($8), that are usually found in Thai Restaurant.
There are 4 other shaved ice dessert available at Cha Thai; they are Sweet Corn Herbal Jelly ($8), Summer Potato ($8) with sweet potato, Melon Sago ($8) and Tropical Paradise ($12) commonly known as mango sticky rice. Among these 6 shaved ice, my favourite is the Tropical Paradise.
Finally, our top favourite dessert of the night, Mountain Milo ($8). This would remind diners of Milo Dinosaur. If you are a fan of this popular local drink, don’t forget to go for it.
NAHMJ Verdict
The common comment I heard about Cha Thai is that they are expensive. But if you try them out you would understand why the pricing is so. Having to import quality ingredients from Thailand to whip out authentic flavour hence paying the premium is justified.
