Si Chuan Flavour Crab Stall 川味坊香辣蟹老店 at People’s Park Food Centre, like many other PRC Chinese stall, doesn’t have a English name on its signage. This is one of the many stall in the same vicinity that whipped the popular Si Chuan Cuisine. It is very easy to locate the stall since it is right next to the extremely favoured Ri Ri Hong Hot Pot stall.
Many might remember about People’s Park Food Centre where it was famed for its famous local delight. Now, this same food centre is dominated by many PRC Chinese hawker stall. As such some might lament that one man’s loss is another man’s gain.
Since the location of Si Chuan Flavour Crab is within a Hawker Centre, there isn’t a need to describe its ambience as it has none to talk about. With the same token, the food is very affordable.
At every Si Chuan meal, we won’t want to be out on the Spicy hot pot. Some termed them as the Griddle. Anyway, no one has the accurate translated name. At this stall it is termed as the Stir Fried Chicken 干锅鸡 ($12). It was not as oily as some but certainly as tasty and it was spicy.
Next is the Sizzling Spicy Fish 沸腾鱼 ($20). Even though the appearance of the dish is scary as diners could spot the enormous amount of chilli, it is a very appetising dish. It is indeed spicy but certainly very fragrance too. Some may find the fish slices a little salty but as such it goes very well with rice.
Likewise, immense amount of chilli spotted in the Spicy Deep Fried Chicken 辣子鸡 ($10). Despite the amount, diners could consume at ease as it isn’t as spicy as it looks. The chicken dice and the skin are ultra crispy. It is best to wash it down with some icy cold beer.
We also ordered a Stir Fried Large Intestine 干煸肥肠 ($10). The least spicy dish among what we have ordered. This isn’t well like by especially younger Singaporean as I know many of them don’t enjoy innards. But we enjoy the chewy and yet lightly crispy exterior.
Before coming to our finale, it was the Spicy Fish Head 霸王鱼头 ($14). Fish was fresh and went well with the sauce.
Finally is the Spicy Crab 香辣蟹 ($26). We are sure Singapore would love this dish as much as our Chilli Crab.
At every Si Chuan Restaurant or stall, there are a handful non-spicy dish too. Over here, Si Chuan Cuisine stall only has Shredded Potato Salad 土豆丝 ($3) and Stir-fried Lettuce 手撕包菜 ($3) . In short, the non-spicy dishes are mainly vegetable dishes.
We find the Stir-fried Shredded Potato akin to Rosti while the latter like any other vegetable.
NAHMJ Verdict
If diners don’t mind eating while perspiring, Si Chuan Flavour Crab Stall is a marvellous choice. Delish food at affordable price is the best combination one could find.
