I was invited to Rocku Yakiniku at Bugis+ by a friend and I was glad that I accepted the invitation. Otherwise, it would have been a shame. It was such a fun night with great company, sumptous food and superb live performance.
In order to create the ambience, the space was rather dark with some moving projected light on the wall. In addition, Rocku painted the walls with cute Japanese painting.
On the very night, Rocku Yakiniku organised the The KARAOKE WARRIOR competition while Eatigo, a dining deals and restaurant reservation portal sponsored the attractive prizes. Guests went on stage to compete in the Karaoke competition. The top prize was a 2 night stay at Holiday Inn Bangkok Sukhumvit with 2 night buffet.
Beside the singing and live performance, what else does Rocku Yakiniku has to offer? Of course, it has to be food!
The highlight at Rocku Yakiniku is Charcoal Grill BBQ. They offered a variety of meat; beef, chicken and pork. Furthermore, seafood were also available; mussel, baby octopus, prawns and salmon. Notably, all these are free flow. Likewise for the drinks. At the start, diners will be served the platter and additional orders could be placed using the order slips placed at the table.
We like the meat slices because they were thin. As such it was easy to grill them. Additionally, meat and seafood were fresh. Seafood were not marinated hence it is in their natural sweetness while a mixed of marinated and non-marinated meat were offered.
Should diners find the offering too meaty, no worry, various vegetables and mushrooms are also available as alternative.
To add on to the variety, at a corner of Rocku is the buffet table providing salad, dessert, and more cooked food.
For cooked food, one could find Karaage, Stirred Fried Udon, Garlic Fried Rice and Japanese Curry. Most enjoyed the Garlic Fried Rice even though both the Stirred Fried Udon and the fried rice tasted similar.
To add on to the list, sushi is also available.
It was a pleasant surprise to find satisfying range of desserts such as jelly, fresh fruits, assorted cakes and 3 ice cream flavours.
For diners who find the BBQ meat too plain could help themselves to the 3 sauces for dip from the buffet table; Sweet Miso, Spicy Miso and Ponzu.
Initially, I was apprehensive that I could eat at ease as I get bad cough from smoke. NAHMJ was glad that even though charcoal was used, we didn’t feel the smokey effect at all.
NAHMJ Verdict
NAHMJ prefer the BBQ food to the cooked food since the latter weren’t as outstanding. We thought the place is great for diners who love to perform or enjoy watching singing together with great food.
Overall, the experience at Rocku Yakiniku was exceptional since delish food together with awesome company cum live performance, what more could we ask more!
