Leap, An Autobiography Of Yap Kwong Weng

When I was invited for the book launch of Leap, an autobiography of Yap Kwong Weng , I wonder who this man is. I googled him up, read his linkedin profile and noted he is such a young leader who has achieved and experienced life much through his 30 plus years of life. I got me curious to read his first book, Leap.

I am sure some may lament about having an autobiography for someone in his late 30s may not be suitable and or some not too positive comment.

His book prompted me to think about how I have lived my life. It further challenged me to improve my life, not materially but personally and spiritually.

Leap is divided to 3 sections. First, his life as a child, followed by life in the service. Lastly life in Myanmar. I enjoyed the first 2 sections as he shared with his readers some insights of his growing ups. As such, it provides a glimpse to his values and thoughts. For section 3, he has provided a good view of Myanmar; its history and economic. But I am more keen on how he dealt and lived in Myanmar. It may not be a bad idea for such an overview should he have part 2.

Overall it is an easy read.

And so who is Yap Kwong Weng? Yap Kwong Weng began his life in the heartland of Toa Payoh; enjoying his childhood with his fave activity, catching and fighting spiders. He then served the Amry for 13 years, started as Commandos and rose through the rank. In those 13 years, he completed his undergraduate degree, met an accident which almost cost his life in the US while undergoing the Navy Seal but yet completed the Navy Seal training. Then left the military, got his PhD. Before his PhD, he got 3 degrees under his belt. He went into the private sector and performed his stunt as the COO with Parami Enegry. He was also the former Secretary-General of United Nations of Association of Singapore and was honored as Young Global Leader in 2012.

Now, he is the co-founders of Triip.com, a Vietnam-based travel platform. He is also the founder and CEO of Leap (Southeast Asia) and Managing Director of Leap Group Holdings in Myanmar. His achievements was amazing. Read to find out how he achieved them?
