Angela May Food Chapters at the Hereen is a collaboration between an international culinary host cum TV presenter, Angela May and Deliciae Hospitality Management group. The restaurant is housed within the second level of Robinson departmental store. While one crosses the road from Mandarin Gallery along Grange Road or from Courts Orchard, looking up you will easily spot Angela May Food Chapters
When entering the space, I was first greeted by the ultra friendly service crew and next the warmy and cosy, chic modern interior. I spotted quite a number of herb plants growing within the restaurant. It seems that this is the trend for 2016 too. Restaurants and cafe alike are growing their own herbs to be used as part of the dishes.
The best seats are by the full glass panel where diners get to people watch or if you wish, the natural light, provided it is a sunny day.
At Angela May Food Chapters, they tend to use locally source ingredients and it offers breakfast dishes, starters, mains and desserts. Interestingly, the restaurant also offer a High Brunch and a High Tea Set, both at $39. And the offerings at both the set were pretty similar.
For breakfast, one could find danishes which comes as Paris Breakfast Set ($15). Alternatively, one could opt for the Locally Farmed Soft Scrambled Eggs ($16) or Suckling Pork over a Wheat Berry Bowl ($22). For vegetarian option, 3 choices, French Toast ($18), Slow Roasted Tomatoes with Whipped Ricotta ($18) and Chilled Coconut Chia Pudding with Fresh Berries ($18).
From 12pm, Starters and Mains will be served. With option of both vegetarian, non and raw selection. I opted the raw selection of Shaved Asparagus & Arugula Mint Salad ($24). Angela May Food Chapters has cleverly added some fried asparagus to the dish to add some crispiness in it. Otherwise, it would have been a boring dish.
7 Mains dishes for selection. I opted for the Josper Grilled Lobster Roll ($42). I like the spice flavour but a pity it overwhelmed and masked the natural sweetness and flavour of the lobster.
Angela May Food Chapters offered a few bakes on its menu, the Ginger Gula Melaka ($12), Inverted Almond Crust Cake ($9), Cookie Plate ($7) and Choux ($4.80 for sweet and $5.90 for savoury). There are 6 sweets and 3 savoury choux. For something unique, one could opt for the Jasmine Mint Cucumber Choux ($4.80).
NAHMJ Verdict
The prices at Angela May are steeper than most. I was taken aback too when I spotted the price tag. But I suppose diners would have to pay for the quality of the ingredients and the space too.
