Chef Lu’s La Mian at the Vivocity, Kopitiam, offers only fresh handmade noodles. I was first attracted to this stall by a bowl of Dry Spicy Handmade Noodle that my colleague was having a week ago at Kopitiam, Vivocity. It looked so amazing. When I was back the next round, without hesitation, I know I must order that for lunch.
Stall no. 17, Chef Lu’s La Mian, at Kopitiam, made each bowl of noodles fresh only upon ordering. You could admire the Chef performing the art while waiting for your lovely bowl of fresh noodles. Chef Lu’s La Mian offers 7 selections, with different ingredients with only noodles. It is a shame that both the Xiao Long Bao and Guo Tie were not available.
From the look of the Spicy Shredded Pork La Mian ($5.50), it looked very spicy, but not at all. The noodle used in this bowl of delight is the broad flat type. It is sat on a pile of beansprouts together with some green leafy vegetables and a few cubes of braised pork. And very generous amount of vinegar were added. Toss them well and you are ready to grub it down.
On the second occasion, I tried the Chef Specialty Braised Minced Meat La Mian ($4.50). For this bowl, the thin noodles were used instead. I like the tasty minced bean which was enough for the noodles. I don’t mind if I could have a little more of the minced meat. Likewise, toss it and slurp it.
I felt a need to try the Soup noodle too so I went for Beef La Mian Soup ($6.00). The slice beef was excellent. It melt in the mouth and noodle likewise. If you do not like soft noodle, you need to consume it as soon as you can. I didn’t quite like the soup, it tasted like the instance noodle soup. So may, it is an indication of a significant amount of MSG added. I am not sensitive to MSG, so no adverse reaction after drinking some of the soup.
The food whipped up at Chef Lu’s La Mian stall is fresh and delicious and value for money, especially the dry version. And surprisingly, it wasn’t the salty kind of food, unlike how most PRC Chef would prepared it.
